In search of their 6th-straight NL West title, the Dodgers are struggling so far yet are chalked up on the MLB odds for Saturday’s skirmish with the Diamondbacks.

Yes, Virginia, the 2018 season is young and there’s a lot of baseball to be played between now and September 30. Still, the Arizona Diamondbacks have served notice they are going to be a force to reckon with after opening a weekend series in Los Angeles with their 4th-straight win of the year over the Dodgers.

Arizona looks to continue what has been a successful road trip already with a fifth consecutive win against their NL West rivals Saturday night at Chavez Ravine. The D-Backs send Taijuan Walker (0-0, 3.27) to the bump against veteran lefthander Rich Hill (1-0, 2.70) in the 9:10 PM (ET) start, Bookmaker loading LA up as -170 chalk with 7 for the total.

Dodgers 1-2 Last Season vs. Diamondbacks With Hill On Hill
Arizona won its 10th-straight regular season game vs. the Dodgers on Friday, 8-7, and can earn its fifth series win of the young campaign with a victory tonight. Los Angeles is getting a second look at Walker after facing him in Phoenix nearly two weeks ago. The Dodgers got to the 25 year old for three runs in the top of the first before Walker settled down and posted zeroes the next four frames, and the Diamondbacks rallied to force extras in an eventual 8-7, 15-inning victory. Walker followed that up this past Monday in St. Louis with six innings of 1-run baseball, another no-decision as Arizona again rallied late for a 4-1 dubya.

The Dodgers have yet to win a series this season, and have been tagged for 24 runs over their last two games. Hill dominated the Giants on Easter with six shutout innings as -180 home chalk on the MLB odds, but it was a different story in San Francisco six days later. The G-Men tagged the southpaw for three runs in four innings, and the Dodgers fell by a 7-5 count on a -125 closing money line. Hill faced the Diamondbacks three times last season, including Game 2 of the NLDS, and worked a combined 13 innings with six runs charged to his ledger.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick
Adrian Johnson is behind the plate for a second time this year, his first resulting in an ‘over’ winner at Colorado earlier this week. He did not trend one way or another on totals in 2017 (14-14-1 O/U/P) when donning the mask, and his lone plate assignment at Dodger Stadium just skipped past a 7½-run total.

Clear skies and temps in the low-to-mid 70s are expected for most of tonight’s tilt, with just a hint of a left-to-right breeze. I’m running with the hotter hand for my free baseball pick.
