Each and every Sunday Swinger looks to bust your bookmaker with his MLB picks so get ready to end your week on a winning note as he reveals his winning selection for Sunday, August 24th.

Swinger's 2014 MLB Record: (23-24-1, -15.45 units)  *Picks are rated from 1 to 5 units*
Last week we picked up a few units as the Cubs edged the Mets 2-1 for 3 units and 'over' 9 in the Blue Jays/White Sox tilt cruised easily as the teams combined for 12 runs which pocketed 4 units to the good. However, and there always seems to be a however lately, we once again sent good money after a bad team when we backed the Red Sox -135 for 4 units over the Astros. That was a money burner and when the dust settled we picked up a mere 1.6 units for our efforts but sorely short of the big time run we need to get even in our MLB picks.

So, to my friend Lynn Krauss and all those who read this column on a weekly basis I look forward to your comments and emails as we attempt to navigate the perilous waters of the MLB odds and put a few bucks in our bank account. Let's do this - again!

White Sox vs. Yankees (MAX PLAY)
The squares will be lining up to back the White Sox because their ace Chris Sale is toeing the slab today. I knew that Chris Sale was a good, solid pitcher prior to this season even though his 11-14 mark from last year was deceptive to say the least. But this good? I mean hello?! Sale is currently the darling of every fantasy baseball geek alive and is single handedly responsible for giving White Sox fans a reason to go to the ballpark. The 24-year-old stands over 6'6" tall and has been a beast this season with a 10-3 mark on a lousy team complemented by a 2.12 ERA with a micro 0.92 WHIP. But we're betting against him today.

Sounds overtly contrarian to spit in the wind and bet against a guy who has been so dominant but the first thing that caught my attention was the MLB odds plummeting from White Sox as -140 road chalk all the way down to almost a pick'em in some offshore shops. If you're a veteran sports gambler and you bet a team at -140 and it drops to -110 then only the very brave or very foolish go back for seconds at the much better line. Something is funky and I've seen this movie too many times.

Besides, Sale did not look bulletproof his last time out as he surrendered three earned runs and lasted only six innings in an 8-2 loss to the Orioles. He hasn't picked up a win since July 26th and perhaps that arm is getting a bit worn down as the White Sox, mired in a five-game slide, try to avoid the three-game sweep at the hands of the Yankees. Meanwhile the Bombers are suddenly in second place in the AL East winning three consecutive games. Go with the better team here and if you want a (S)ale, go to Macys.

Mets vs. Dodgers
The Mets' Bartolo Colon amazes me. He gives hope to any middle-aged fat guy looking to make it big in the Bigs. This 41-year-old three-hundred pounder defies the laws of time and physics. I love it but I don't love him here against the Dodgers. History has proven that Big Blue beats up Big Bart. Colon has a 6.60 ERA, a 1.56 WHIP and  1-4 mark during his career when he takes on the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball while the Mets will be thrilled to end the season at .500 which will be a tall task. Go with the better team and watch the Dodgers blast Bart right off the block.
