A late change in Seattle’s pitching plans delayed MLB odds for tonight’s series finale between the Mariners and Astros, and calls to the bullpen will come early and often.

Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners

Compared to the win streaks Cleveland (13) and Arizona (12) currently have going, Houston’s 6-game string of dubyas look rather puny. Still, the Astros are in a groove and look to decrease their magic number in the AL West with a sweep of the Seattle Mariners tonight (10:10 PM ET). A late pitching change by the Mariners has delayed the numbers at many of SBR’s top sports books, but we expect Houston to be favored around -135 to -140 with Lance McCullers Jr. (7-3, 3.92) on the mound against Andrew Moore (1-3, 6.34).

Houston opened the series with a triumph on Monday, a 6-2 victory helped along by Dallas Keuchel’s pitching and Alex Bregman’s key double in the seventh. The Astros were held to two hits on Tuesday, but one of them was a Cameron Maybin homer and Justin Verlander was solid in his Houston debut for a 3-1 triumph. Houston leads the season series 10-5 with totals in Seattle 3-5 O/U.

Astros Winless In McCullers’ Last 5 Starts

Coming off the DL for his first start since the end of July, McCuller simply wasn’t in control of things before that with Houston losing his last five assignments during which the righthander surrendered 23 runs in 24 innings. His last win, in fact, came in Seattle on June 25, McCullers allowing a run in five innings while whiffing eight as -150 chalk on the MLB odds. Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager have been the toughest outs for him in this lineup, that pair combining for a .359 average (14-39).

A 2nd-round pick in 2015 out of Oregon State, Moore has progressed well through Seattle’s farm system and even looked pretty good in his first few major league starts earlier this year. It hasn’t been too pretty since then, and the 23 year old has been a bit susceptible to the home run as Moore prepares to face a slugging Houston lineup for the first time.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick

Mark Wegner will have the dish for the series finale, the 20-year veteran arbiter 13-10-2 O/U/P this season. He has worked three Houston games so far, each going ‘over’ the totals including one of their losses last week at Tropicana Field to the Rangers. The Minnesota native also called two games this year in Seattle, each an ‘over’ winner.

The roof was open at Safeco Field the first two games, and should be again tonight with temps in the mid-70s at first pitch and very little breeze under partly cloudy skies. Both starting pitchers will be limited tonight, meaning it’s a bullpen effort from both sides. I’m looking for a 9½-10 run total and like the ‘under’ for my free baseball pick.
