We've looked at today's slate and see a couple of solid games that will "whet your appetite" while building your bankroll. Here are your MLB Picks of the Day.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets

"Pitcher Undecided"
While SBRodds hasn't let the cat out of the bag where MLB odds are concerned, ESPN clearly lists the New York Mets as a -160 betting favorite with Jacob deGrom (3-2, 2.80 ERA) taking the mound and Pittsburgh's pitcher is listed as "undecided". Where SBRodds are concerned, Jameson Taillon (0-0, 4.50 ERA in 1 start) is listed as the starter and the Bucs are riding a 5 game losing streak.

Although deGrom hasn't pitched to the level that he's used to, he's pitched well enough to win and when a struggling team such as Pittsburgh (32-31) is taking time to lay out a starter, that's all that I need to know. The Mets look mighty appealing as Jacob deGrom always provides 100% effort and even if Taillon is the starter, he has no experience and his team is reeling.

Starling Marte
Although the Mets are the way that I'm leaning, deGrom must keep Pittsburgh's leading hitter, Starling Marte, in check as Marte has been a flatout beast this season. He leads Pittsburgh with a .332 BA and can basically compensate for a lack of power with intangibles.

For the season, Marte has 18 doubles, 2 triples, 5 HR, 23 RBI, and has swiped 19 bags. This has been huge being that former NL MVP, Andrew McCutchen, has been struggling mightily, hitting a mere .241. Marte's splits look appealing as he's done most of his damage on the road with 4 HR, 13 RBI, and .333 BA on the road. He's also 8 for his last 20 at bats with a triple and 2 RBI. Look for Marte to make deGrom's job tough tonight as Pittsburgh desperately needs a victory.

The New York Mets (34-28) have not been much better than the Pirates and this is a team that reached the World Series last season. Without Lucas Duda and David Wright, the Mets are definitely shorthanded offensively and can't hold a candle to the Pirates with a bat, but ultimately, good pitching wins games and Jacob deGrom starting gives the Amazin's an amazing edge.

Back On Track
Yoenis Cespedes started off the 2016 MLB Season like a ball of fire and then started slumping. Lately he's gotten back on track and his bat is a necessity in this lineup. For the season, Cespedes is hitting .282 with 16 HR and 40 RBI. He would have more RBI's but the Mets offense is thin at the moment. In Cespedes' last 7 games, he's hitting .310 with 1 HR, 3 RBI, and 2 doubles. Look for Cespedes to possibly play a key role against a vulnerable Pittsburgh team.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Boston Red Sox

Chris Tillman vs. David Price
Due to the fact that these pitchers are two of the better pitchers in the majors, the betting total could be listed lower, but odds makers think that these two hard-hitting teams will continue to hit well. While I don't think that either offense will be completely stifled, 8.5 runs is a bit high for my blood as Tillman (8-1, 3.01 ERA) has been a beast this season and David Price (7-3 ,4.63 ERA) is always capable of shutting down the opposition despite his poor ERA.

Price has been rather lucky as he's received run support, therefore providing him with a 70% win percentage. He'll have to be at his best tonight when facing the like of a young, talented Manny Machado and red hot Chris Davis.

Despite losing 3 consecutive games, Baltimore is 36-26 and tied with Boston for the divisional lead in the AL East.

One other player that I didn't mention was Mark Trumbo. Trumbo has revived his career with the Birds as he's hitting 20 HR, 49 RBI, and a .286 BA. Trumbo has also been effective against David Price. He's batting .364 in 22 at bats against Price with 2 doubles, 2 HR and 7 RBI.

"Crush" Davis
He might not hit for average, but Chris Davis has been tearing the cover off of the baseball lately. He has 5 HR and 10 RBI in just his last 17 at-bats alone. Davis has hit .287 on the road this season and is a major threat in this baseball game. I know that Boston has the top offense in the MLB, but the starting pitching matchup is outstanding and 8.5 is too high for these pitchers.
