The Blue Jays will hope to rebound after their series opening loss to the Bronx Bombers and try to crawl their way out of the AL East basement. Let's review the MLB odds and cash a ticket.

Swinger's 2016 MLB Record: 22-12, +9.94 units

Toronto Blue Jays (22-25, -9.2 units)
The Jays had won three of their last four before hitting the Big Apple and dropping their opener of a three-game set with the Yankees by a 6-0 score last night. The MLB odds makers installed the visitors as +120 road dogs but Toronto was only able to muster two hits while the Yankees extended their winning streak to six games. The Blue Jays rank 16th in runs scored and 17th in slugging percentage but their team batting average is 25th while their on base percentage sits at 20th among the 30 Major League clubs.

Despite several sterling performances the Blue Jays’ starter this evening, Marco Estrada, is just 1-2 on the season with a 2.61 ERA and a WHIP of 1.05, holding opposition hitters to a .187 batting average. In his last outing Estrada held Minnesota to only three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out nine over eight innings of work on Thursday, but was not involved in the decision. The eight-year veteran is 1-2 over his career versus the Yankees with an ERA of 3.77 and a WHIP of 1.256. His team's record is 2-3 (-0.7 units) in those starts.

New York Yankees (22-22, -1.6 units)
If you have been including the Yankees in your MLB picks over the last six games then your bankroll has swelled. Carlos Beltran homered last night and starter Nathan Eovaldi notched his fourth consecutive decision with one of his best outings of the season in the team’s 6-0 blanking of the Blue Jays. New York is now at .500 courtesy of their recent six-game tear in which they have outscored their opponents 32-11 while their starters have sizzled with a 1.70 ERA over that stretch. Alex Rodriguez has not played a role in the team’s recent resurgence as he has yet to return to the big club after his stint on the DL.

Right-hander Ivan Nova (3-1, 3.26 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) will take the hill for the Bombers and looks to build upon his success since joining the starting rotation in C.C. Sabathia’s absence. Nova hurled another strong six innings of work in his last outing against the Athletics where he allowed just one earned run on four hits in the Yankees 4-1 victory last week. Nova has been on a highly limited pitch count due to his transition from reliever to starter and needed only 62 of them over his six inning stint against Oakland. Nova is 5-4 when starting against the Blue Jays over his career with an ERA of 5.14 and a WHIP of 1.405. His team's record is 7-6 (+1.8 units) in these starts. In the end, how well prepared are the Yankees to defend the AL east?

Betting Analysis
Toronto’s Marco Estrada has pitched, for the most, brilliantly this season with only a few hiccups here and there. Nevertheless, the hard luck pitcher is just 1-2 on the season but things have a way of evening out over the course of a 162 game grind and so too should his record. In addition, the Blue Jays’ bats have been uncharacteristically silent in light of their prodigious potential. It is only a matter of time before their lineup feasts and tonight could be that night.

The Yankees have had a nice run of it but have been the beneficiary of some lucky breaks, bad opposing pitching and of course the winning has come at the expense of the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland Athletics. Tonight that will all change as Ivan Nova has gotten tagged throughout his career against the Jays and this evening will be no different.

Let’s cast our fortunes with the visitors who boast a better starting pitcher and a better lineup. Still not convinced? Take a look at our top 2 selections of the day and find out why our other capper favors the Yankees pick!
