LA Angels (Shoemaker) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (Dickey) (-110) 7:05 ET
The LA Angels and Toronto Blue Jays close out this 4-game early week set with Toronto looking to even the series after a pair of narrow one run losses each of the last two nights by scores of 4-3 and 3-2.  That meant that Monday’s 10 run outburst in a 4 run victory was a false alarm regarding the reemergence of the potent Toronto bats, who are currently listed as the favorites on the MLB odds. It was the only time in the last 8 games that the Blue Jays have scored more than 5 runs.

It is one of only 2 games since May 9th in which the big bats of Toronto have scored more than 5 runs.  Over that 11-game span, Toronto is 2-9, scoring just 23 runs in those 9 defeats.  The Toronto offense was at its worse in the last 2 games, totaling just 5 runs on 9 hits.  This lack of offensive production is the reason why we can feel comfortable playing against a Toronto offense which is significantly better than LAA in YTD offensive numbers.  There is little question that they will need to score runs with Dickey on the mound.  The veteran knuckleballer is 1-5 with a 5.76 ERA for the season and an .806 OPS.  When his knuckleball does not dance, it leads to a reduced strikeout count and increased homerun count, which have been prominent in his recent starts.  In his last 6 starts, Dickey is 1-4 with a 6.93 ERA, allowing 9 homeruns.  In his most recent 5 starts, Dickey has just 7Ks and an equal amount of walks.  It has been worse in his most recent 2 starts in which he has lasted just 11 IP, allowing 13 runs on 17 hits.  Until the movement returns to his pitches, he is a pure PLAY AGAINST!

The LA Angels have transformed into a good pitching (No. 2 OPS at .647) but poor hitting (No. 30 OPS .637) team.  It is that pitching staff that has been dominant in a recent 10-4 run in which the Angels have allowed more than 3 runs on only 3 occasions.  A return to form start by Shoemaker was among those outings.  In a 6-1 Baltimore victory, Shoemaker worked 7 innings, allowing a single run and only 3 hits with 7Ks. We are certainly eager to play him on the road for our MLB picks, where the Angels have won his last 9 starts, in which he has posted a 3.00 ERA.

Until the Blue Jays start hitting and movement returns to the knuckleball for Dickey, they are a pure play against in his starts.
