We browse the early MLB odds board in search of betting value on Wednesday's card. Read on and find two picks on National League games that will maximize your profits this week.

Pirates vs. Cubs

Right-hander Ivan Nova (11-11, 3.97 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) takes the hill for the Pirates after struggling against the Reds on Friday, when he gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits (two home runs) and three walks with six strikeouts over five innings of a 9-5 loss. Nova has been hit hard lately, as he's posted a 6.00 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP over his last eight starts. He does have a solid 3.5 strikeout-to-walk-ratio (K:BB) in 45 innings in that span and he's dominated the Cubs this season, going 2-0 with a 3.29 ERA in two starts against them.

Jose Quintana (8-11, 4.49 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) starts for the Cubs looking to get back on track from a poor outing against the Phillies on Friday, when he allowed six earned runs on nine hits (one home run) and four walks with seven strikeouts over five innings of a 7-1 loss. After posting a 2.37 ERA over his first three starts with the Cubs, Quintana's ERA has increased almost two full runs over his last five starts, so I like Nova and the Pirates at +172 MLB odds here.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks

Hyun-Jin Ryu (5-6, 3.34 ERA, 1.29 WHIP) will start for the Dodgers as he tries to win his fourth straight decision. Ryu was solid last Thursday against the Pirates, giving up one earned run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings of a 5-2 win and he's 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA in four starts this month, with the Dodgers going 4-0 in those games.

Robbie Ray (10-5, 3.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) will make his 22nd start of the season for the Diamondbacks after allowing one earned run on two hits (one home run) and two walks with nine strikeouts in five innings of a 3-2 win against the Mets on Thursday. Ray, who had been on the disabled list since July 28 with a concussion, could have pitched further into the game but the Diamondbacks were monitoring his pitch count. The left-hander won't be facing any restrictions against the Dodgers and it will be a difficult matchup but he's picked up right where he left off before getting injured, so I'm looking at Under 9.5 (-105) for my MLB picks here.
