Baltimore is back home to face Chicago on Friday after wild events and chaos against division rivals in New York and in Boston, which not only affected the Orioles but those betting baseball.

Baltimore had improbable games against the Yankees, but they were nothing compared to the tension with the Red Sox to start this week, with Manny Machado and Adam Jones involved in various nasty spats at Fenway Park. As Orioles manager Buck Showalter said: "Nice to play baseball again instead of all the drama, so we're looking forward to getting back in that flow again."

Pitching Matchup: Gonzalez Vs. Miley

Former Oriole Miguel Gonzalez (3-1, 3.27 ERA) takes the ball for the White Sox to open the series, and after going 17 starts in which he only allowed more than three earned runs once the right-hander was bombed for seven runs and 14 hits over six innings in 7-3 loss at Detroit last Sunday. Consider that an outlier start for Gonzalez, as he normally works the corners with a low 90s heater and has above-average secondary pitches. He has only faced his former Orioles team once and lost 7-5.

Wade Miley (1-1, 2.32) has only given up 20 hits in 31 innings and opposing batters are hitting just .187 against him (.266 is career norm), yet each start is like the old Aerosmith song "Living on the Edge." Miley's 38 strikeouts are impressive, but his general lack of location has caused 19 walks, and unless that is cleaned up quick his ERA will be heading north swiftly. Miley is 1-3 with a 5.96 ERA in four career starts against Chicago.

Each Offense In Solid Situation Spot

The White Sox are averaging 6.2 runs per game against left-handed starters, which is the best in baseball and a key why Chicago is tied for first place in the AL Central. The Pale Hose are 8-2 vs. port-siders.

The Birds are 11-4 vs. right-handed starting pitchers and are scoring 4.7 RPG and of late. They have swung the bats even better against any pitcher, scoring 5.6 RPG in their last seven outings.

Betting Odds, History & Bullpen Numbers

Baltimore is a -165 home favorite according to the MLB odds with the Ov8.5 (-120). This is these teams' first meeting of 2017 and the O's hold a 4-3 edge at Camden Yards of late, with the 'over' 5-1-1. Chicago's bullpen has been lights-out with a league-leading 1.91 ERA, with the Orioles sixth at 3.78.

The Winner Is ...

For MLB picks, one has to be impressed with Baltimore's 8-3 home record; nonetheless, the Sox are crushing lefties and have won eight of 10 of those contests and have a consistent starter in Gonzalez, backed with a great bullpen behind him. Let's play the underdog that matches a system I have with a 38-14 record.
