Milwaukee Brewers (Fiers) vs, Arizona Diamondbacks (Godley) 9:40 ET
Milwaukee travels to Arizona for the first of a 4-game weekend set with the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Milwaukee is 22-24 on the road which is better than the 23-26 home record of the Arizona Diamondbacks.  From there, the edges grow greater for the Milwaukee Brewers, who are in far better current form and clearly have the best of it on the mound tonight.

Arizona has been somewhat of a “head case” this year. Over a span of 3 months, the D’backs tried 12 times to get to the .500 mark, failing in each effort.  Since they finally reached the .500 plateau, they have gone 1-8 since.  We want no part of them, their losing home record or today’s starter, Godley.  As an indication of Arizona’s need for pitching (they have the 26th ranked pitching OPS at .746), they have summoned Godley to make his major league debut.  Though the organization is saying all the right things about his competitive nature, the numbers simply do not support a reason for him to succeed at this level.  Godley began the year in single A ball.  When finally promoted to AA status, he has posted a 5.14 ERA in a trio of starts.  Hardly the type of numbers which give confidence to his performance tonight in his first outing in the Bigs!

Milwaukee has been the biggest turnaround story of the year.  Remember, this is a team who last year was playing .600 ball for the first half of the season.  Then, faltered down the stretch with their 82 wins, not being enough to get them an invite to the post-season party.  They continued their demise with an 18-36 start.  But, since new manager, Craig Counsell, has taken the reigns, this is a 50-50 team, including one who is on a 17-7 surge.  In their most recent 4 games, the Brewers have totaled 24 runs and 50 hits.  Today’s starter, Fiers, has clearly been a part of that resurgence.  Milwaukee has won the last 5 starts by Fiers, who has posted a 2.18 ERA in that timespan.

This is a clear case of two also rans playing with opposite momentum. Combined with the fact that we will have the better of it on the mound and that Milwaukee has a better road record than Arizona does at home, makes this an easy MLB pick on the biggest turnaround story in MLB this season.
