The Red Sox dominated the regular-season series against the Yankees a season ago, but things may start out differently in their first meeting in 2014. Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this American League East matchup at Yankee Stadium.

Hit The Road
Boston hits the road for the second time this season after a 2-4 homestand, which culminated with a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers as -135 favorites Wednesday, while going UNDER the betting total for the third time in four affairs.

The Red Sox went 13-6 against the Yankees last year, which happened to be their most wins versus the Bronx Bombers in a single season series since 1973.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is 75-80 against division opponents the last two-plus seasons.

Trouble On The Mound
New York allowed 19 runs in dropping its last two games versus the Baltimore Orioles, including a 5-4 defeat as -167 home favorites last night, while going OVER the betting total for the third time in four contests.

The Yankees are going to have a hard time closing out games in the next two weeks, considering relief pitcher David Robertson has already landed on the 15-day disabled list with a groin injury.

It’s a major blow due to all-time great Mariano Rivera retiring last year, which places all the pressure on Shawn Kelley, who was saddled with the loss Wednesday.

Red Sox starting pitcher Clay Buchholz (0-0, 12.46 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 7-6 home loss to the Milwaukee Brewers last Saturday, as he surrendered six runs and 13 hits over 4.1 innings of work.

The right-hander has posted a 5.32 ERA in 12 career outings versus the Yankees—his second highest against any AL ball club.

In three efforts versus New York in 2013, Buchholz tallied a perfect 3-0 record and 0.50 ERA.

Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda will make just his second trip to the mound during the regular season since Sept. 21, 2011, as he comes off a 4-0 road defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays last Saturday.

The right-hander is 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA in 10 career efforts versus AL East members, including an 0-1 mark and 14.54 ERA in one appearances against the Red Sox.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Series Coverage: MLB Picks & Predictions

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Yankees as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve gone 12-4 in their last 16 games as home favorites of -110 to -150.
