After losing 9 out of their last 10 games, the Colorado Rockies (37-51) finally squeaked out a ball game last night. Today, they must face veteran Josh Beckett (5-5, 2.37) and this will be no cakewalk as Beckett’s ERA is up with the best of them in the National League.

First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. this afternoon at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. This game can be seen on MLB TV.

5 Dimes Sportsbook currently lists the Dodgers as a -138 betting favorite and the total for the game is 11 runs. I have a betting method regarding Coors Field game that has been flawless, but today’s matchup will be tough.

My Coors Field Trend
Whenever an ace faces Colorado at Coors Field, I’ve been taking the under. Mostly every other time, I’ve been taking the over no matter what the total is and I haven’t lost a game there this season.

The problem with this matchup is that Beckett sports a hot 2.37 ERA but really isn’t an ace due to lack of run support. We might be leaning towards a rare under as Beckett has been super-reliable for the Dodgers and the total are very high no matter who pitches at Coors Field.

As usual, Coors Field produced another over the total yesterday as Dan Haren allowed 8 runs on 8 hits in just 5 1/3 innings to the Rockies offense in a Colorado 8-7 victory. Amazingly enough, this was done without Troy Tulowitzki in the lineup. Actually, leadoff hitter, Charlie Blackmon, wasn’t in the lineup either, but Colorado continued to bash the ball out of the ballpark with a couple of home runs despite a 5 run 7th inning for the Dodgers.

Corey Dickerson
Even though his numbers are inflated, Rockies left fielder, Corey Dickerson, is having a fantastic season. He’s coming off of a game in which he went yard and in 191 at-bats this season, Dickerson is hitting .340 (.402 on-base percentage) with 11 HR and 34 RBI. It’s really difficult to decipher whether a player is a star or playing at Coors Field has made them a star.

We look at Dickerson’s splits and you have your answer. He’s hitting .415 at Coors Field and .268 on the road. Something really needs to be done about this ballpark; these numbers are simply phony. As a bettor, it could work to your benefit if you follow my method of betting of Coors Field as the overs have been hitting quite often.

“Hooray For Hollywood”
The Dodgers have a lot to cheer about . They have one of the most potent offenses in Major League Baseball with Hanley Ramirez, Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, and Dee Gordon and the best pitcher in the modern era in Clayton Kershaw to go along with Zack Greinke.

Los Angeles definitely has the better team in this game, but in Coors Field, I like to stick to the totals because the Rockies are unpredictable. If Tulowitzki sits again, Los Angeles has a definite edge and it’s possible because Tulo sits quite often on Sundays.

I’m going to do something that I rarely ever do at Coors and that’s take the under. Josh Beckett has been pitching like an ace, but simply hasn’t been getting the proper run support to have a winning record.

MLB Pick: Los Angeles/Colorado Under 11 at 5 Dimes
