After analyzing the betting trends, our expert MLB handicapper recommends to bet the total for Thursday's game. The Atlanta Braves have really struggled at the plate with runners in scoring position in recent games, which will lead to a low-scoring affair against the Boston Red Sox Thursday night.

Disappointing series
Atlanta has dropped the first three games of this series against Boston, including a 4-0 defeat as +130 road underdogs on Wednesday, while going 'under' the betting total for the fourth time in six affairs. The Braves are 6-for-33 with runners in scoring position over their last five contests, while they rank 24th in that statistical category for the entire season, with a .228 average.

MLB handicappers will find that the Atlanta Braves are 4-1 after getting shut out this season, with the 'under' going 3-1-1 in that situation.

 Quite a turnaround
The sky was falling in Boston due to a season-high 10-game losing streak to begin the week, but the franchise has turned things around against the National League East division leaders. The Red Sox are 17-5 in their last 22 meetings against the Braves, including wins in five of their last six home games in the series.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the Boston Red Sox is 34-18 in interleague play.

Braves starting pitcher Mike Minor (2-3, 3.90 ERA) suffered a 3-1 home loss to the Colorado Rockies in his last trip to the mound, as he allowed three runs and four hits over 6.1 frames. The left-hander has received one or no runs of support in three of his five outings, while he earned a 5-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants in his only road appearance of the year on May 13. Minor surrendered seven runs (four earned) and seven hits in 4.2 innings of work in a 9-4 setback on the road to the Red Sox on June 24, 2012.

Red Sox starting pitcher Jake Peavy (1-2, 4.65 ERA) has watched the club drop four of his last five outings, but he didn’t earn a decision in a 6-5 road loss against the Tampa Bay Rays last Saturday. The right-hander has put together a 0-2 record and 4.42 ERA in six home appearances—issuing 19 walks and striking out 27 batters in 36.2 combined frames. In eight lifetime starts versus the Braves, Peavy has gone 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA.

Prediction I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their MLB picks, as the 'under' is 9-3 in the Red Sox’ last 12 home games.
