Winners of four in a row, the Minnesota Twins have earned our MLB pick tonight to complete the sweep against the Cleveland Indians. The baseball odds makers have set them as underdogs.
Pitchers and the Line
After losing the first two games in this series the Indians have come out at around a -150 favorite which makes the Twins getting some pretty good value at around +140. Trevor May gets the start for the Twins, young pitcher but is starting to develop into a decent starter. In his last four games he has only allowed 7 earned runs in 19 innings. He comes in with an ERA of 4.15 and 1.35 WHIP. For the Indians is the more well known Danny Salazar, also young he comes in with a 3.81 ERA and a really impressive 1.08 WHIP, he is a big strikeout pitcher and has the kind of stuff that could make him an all star type player in the years to come.
When forming your Sunday morning MLB picks, keep in mind that this play has a lot of value simply on the way Minnesota has improved at the plate recently. In their last three games they are 5th in the league in batting average at .318, 9th in slugging at .486, and 3rd in runs scored at over 7 per game. All their offensive stats are up in this time frame and they have been striking out less. I am anticipating them to give Salazar a bit of trouble today. On the other end in that same time frame the Indians are in the bottom half of the league at usually 20th or worse in most offensive categories, one that sticks out is that they are ranked 24th in the league in hits per game.
After analyzing the MLB odds, we note that there is really good value here on a pretty good pitcher. I understand why the public would want to back the Indians trying to avoid the sweep and Salazar is a bit of an upgrade over May, but statistically they are not setting the world on fire by any means so I like the hotter Twins to pull the upset.
