The Yankees and Rangers take their series in Texas to a decisive third game on Wednesday. Read on to discover how our handicapper is making his free MLB pick.

Texas reliever Nate Adcock was the only hurler to have any success Tuesday night in Game 2 between the Rangers and New York Yankees.  The ninth of 10 pitchers called upon on the evening, Adcock was the only one to escape without a run being charged to his linescore.

Mark Teixeira returned to the New York lineup and homered to deliver the deciding runs in a 12-11 Yankees victory that evened the series a game apiece. Now the teams will decide things with a couple of veteran pitchers on the hill for Game 3.

Colby Lewis delivers the first pitch around 8:05 PM (ET), the Texas righthander opposed by New York's Hiroki Kuroda. It's Kuroda and the Yanks drawing the chalk line around -150, with SBR's live MLB odds listing 9 for the scoreboard hurdle.

Lewis Looking For 1st Career Dubya vs. Yankees
Kuroda's last two starts each went into New York's win column, though he did get knocked around a bit last Friday in the Bronx vs. Toronto (5.2 IP, 4 ER, 2 HR). The 39-year-old has a slightly better ERA on the road in 10 starts (3.88) than at home in 11 (4.08).

He has faced the Rangers four times since joining the Yankees prior to 2012, and New York is 3-1 in those contests with Kuroda sporting an outstanding 1.22 ERA in just over 29 frames. Two of the starts came in Texas, the righthander splitting the decisions while allowing just two runs in 13.2 IP.

Lewis suffered a beat-down at the hands of the Angels prior to the All-Star Game, and has since dropped two more decisions. One of those defeats came in New York last week when Brandon McCarthy and the Yankees pulled off a 4-2 triumph, Lewis working into the seventh and allowing three runs. That was his first appearance against the Yanks since 2003, and Lewis is 0-3 with a 6.13 ERA in four starts against them over his career.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick
The task of calling balls and strikes for the series finale will fall to Ed Hickox, 5-11-1 O/U/P on the season after five of his last six plate assignments failed to reach the totals. The 20-year veteran has been tough on home teams overall (6-11), and home dogs in particular (1-4)  Hickox worked a start by Lewis in early May when the Rangers were in Anaheim, and Texas' 5-2 victory fell short of the total.

Some thunderstorms are expected in the D-FW area today, but they're also expected to clear out by game time when the thermometer should be in the upper-80s, cool by Texas standards this time of year. The weatherman is also calling for a SE wind in the 12-15 mph range (in from center field).

Was last night's plate-crossing festival a sign of things to come this evening, or was it a fluke? I'm betting on the latter with another free pick on the low side of the total.

MLB Pick: Yankees-Rangers Under 9 (-105)
