New York took a 2-1 lead in this series with a 2-1, rain-shortened victory Wednesday evening as betting underdogs against Yu Darvish. The teams complete this four-game series Thursday afternoon (1:05 pm ET).

Thursday's Betting Odds
In early betting action the best price we could find on New York with Brandon McCarthy was the -181 offered at BetOnline, while Texas and Colby Lewis could be found at +174 at 5Dimes. And most books were listing the total on today's game at nine runs.

Wednesday Re-Hash
Texas scored once in the top of the third inning Wednesday night, but New York tallied twice in the bottom of that frame. An inning and a half later later the rains came, and after a nearly two-hour delay the field was deemed unplayable, and the game was called right there, giving the Yanks a 2-1 victory.

New York picked up the win as +110 home dogs on Wednesday's MLB betting board.

We took the 'under' 7.5 runs for our free pick on Wednesday's contest, and that choice looked like it had a chance to come in a winner. But when the game was called short of nine innings our bet was canceled.

During the delay Texas traded closer Joakim Soria to Detroit.

Throwing Thursday
McCarthy (4-10, 4.63) is 8/20 on quality starts this season, 2/2 since coming over to the Yanks in that trade from Arizona. Last time out he held Cincy to one run through six innings, walking none while whiffing nine, and just before that he held Cleveland to one ER through 6 2/3 innings.

So in two starts for New York McCarthy has allowed two ER and 15 hits in 12 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out 12. The Yanks have won both his starts for them.

Overall this season the former Ranger has allowed 146 hits in 122 innings, walked 21 and struck out 105.

McCarthy started once against Texas last year, and got clipped for six runs in less than three innings of a 9-5 Diamondbacks defeat.

Lewis (6-7, 6.37) is just 2/17 on quality starts this year. Last Saturday he needed 106 pitches to get 15 outs against Toronto, allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings; and just prior to that he got bombed by the Angels for 11 ER in less than three innings.

For the season Lewis has allowed a whopping 135 hits through 89 innings, walked 29 and struck out 78. Texas is 8-9 in games Lewis has started, with the totals leaning toward the 'overs' by a 10-6 margin.

This will be Lewis' first start against the Yankees since the 2010 AL championship series.

Free Pick for Thursday
The first three games of this series have seen a total of 12 runs scored, and we expect more of the same Thursday afternoon. So we'll go with the 'under' nine runs for our free MLB pick on today's series finale.
