San Francisco Giants

The biggest news out of San Francisco today is the fact that Bumgarner is on the DL. Still, they have to continue to play baseball and today they take on the Rockies in Colorado. San Francisco has been made a small underdog in this spot but is there some good value in backing them?

San Francisco Giants

Matt Moore gets the start for San Francisco and comes in with a 4.26 ERA and 1.37 whip, as well as an incredible 20.25 ERA in Coors field in his only appearance last season where he allowed six earned runs in just two innings. He is also just faced Colorado in his most recent appearance on the mound in San Francisco allowing five earned runs and 10 hits over five innings. Even with those really poor numbers odds makers have not made him a very big underdog today which really gets my radar up. On the season offensively San Francisco has been less than stellar and rank outside of the top half of the league in most categories but they don’t strike out very much and they did have a little bit of success against today’s starting pitcher for Colorado. The number is what really throws me off on this taking in consideration Moore’s really poor numbers versus the Rockies but odds makers have kept this line really tight.

Colorado Rockies

Antonio Senzatela takes the mound for Colorado coming in with a 2.37 ERA and 0.95 whip in three appearances this season. The rookie has come out pitching well so far early in the season but I think with San Francisco getting a second look at him he will struggle a little bit today after the Giants were able to garner seven hits off him in seven innings. Offensively, as it is typical, Colorado hits a lot better at home than on the road but their overall numbers are simply not very good so far this young season as they are hitting just .224 as a team and averaging just 3.38 runs per game ranking them 23rd and 24th in MLB respectively. They also rank in the bottom third of the league in strikeouts, OPS, and walks per game. This makes me believe there is some decent value in backing San Francisco today, not only because odds makers have made this line close but the fact that Matt Moore is actually a good major league pitcher and that this could be a good bounce back spot for him.

MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have made San Francisco about a +105 underdog across the board and for my MLB pick, I will take the Giants in this spot. Although Moore has definitely struggled versus Colorado look for him to have a decent enough outing and for the San Francisco bats to really come alive today to pull off the win.
