The Giants are a big MLB betting odds favorite as Madison Bumgarner takes to the mound versus James Shields. Before making your pick, remember that the World Series is evened up after Game 4.

The Kansas City Royals Can Win Because…
Shields was a better pitcher on the road this season than at home. Yes, Shields has struggled in the playoffs and has not pitched like the ace the Royals had hoped he’d be. Still, he’s a quality starter who has pitched better on the road this year. On the year, Shields was just 4-6 with a 3.51 ERA at home. Opponents batted .272 against him. On the road, he’s 10-2 with a 2.97 ERA. Opponents batted just .243 against.

Kansas City has the better bullpen here so if they can just get a quality start of Shields, they should have a good shot to sneak this one out.

The San Francisco Giants Can Win Because…
They’re facing off with “Big Game” James. Or, more accurately, “Three Frames” James. Shields was a train wreck in the Game 1 of the World Series, giving up seven hits and five earned runs in just three innings pitched. He only struck out one batter. He hasn’t been particularly good in the playoffs at any point as he’s posted a 7.07 ERA with a 1.93 WHIP. Right now, all of the momentum is with the Giants and they’re at home in Game 5. They should have a field day against Shields.

On the flip side, they’ll have their stud on the hill with Bumgarner. He’s been lights out this postseason. So far, he has posted a 1.40 ERA and a sparkling 0.73 WHIP in five postseason starts. More importantly, the Giants have won four of those outings, including Game 1 of the World Series (7-1).

Although the series is tied, Game 4 was a game changer. All arrows point to San Francisco in this one.

Outlook & Pick
This is do or die time for the Giants. Even though the series is tied at 2-2, there is simply no way they can go back to Kansas City for Games 6 and 7 while trailing in this series. This is a must-win for them. On top of that, they have momentum going after scoring 11 runs last night, they have their staff ace on the bump and they also have home-field advantage. Add it all up and you’re understand why the best MLB pick is for another Giants win.

If the juice scares you off in terms of the moneyline, consider taking the Giants run line. In Bumgarner’s four wins this postseason, the Giants have won each time by at least two or more. This series should head back to Kansas City with the Giants holding a one-game lead.
