Will the Red Sox put up a fight tonight against the surging Angels and their red-hot starting pitcher Garrett Richards? Read our MLB handicapping article to find out where the best betting values lies before making your MLB picks for the day.

Red Sox Playing Spoiler at Fenway
The Red Sox will host the Angels tonight at Fenway Park in Boston with the first pitch slated for 7:10 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds the Angels are a -131 money line road favorite and the posted total is 8.5. The Angels have gone 11-5 versus the Red Sox over the last 3-seasons.

Baffling Buchholz
What a difference a year makes for Clay Buchholz. The Boston hurler had a sensational season in 2013, and was an integral part of the Red Sox world championship run. This season has been the polar opposite. The right-hander enters tonight having seen 5 of his last 6-starts go over the total, while posting a large 6.57 ERA, and 1.65 WHIP. He’s also gone a dismal 0-5 against the money in his last 5-starts. The news doesn’t get any better when he pitches at Fenway. He’s gone 2-8 against the money at home this season with a horrible 7.00 ERA and 1.70 WHIP.

Rising Richards
The Angels Garrett Richards has had his coming out party this season. He’s gone a terrific 11-3 against the money on the road, earned MLB bettors +7.70 units versus the money line, and posted an excellent 1.96 ERA in those 14-starts. Richards has also gone an extremely profitable 15-3 against the money this season when installed as a money line favorite of -110 or more.

Surging Angels
The Angels entered game 2 of this series on Tuesday having won 5 of their last 6, and 9 of their last 11-games. Combining that hot streak, with Oakland losing their last 5-games, has enabled the Halos to barge themselves into a tie for the lead in the AL West. The Angels will be facing a Red Sox team that entered Tuesday’s game with a disappointing 56-68 record, and is just a year removed from being World Series champs. The Halos have gone a terrific 39-15 (.722) this season versus opponents with a losing record.

Final Analysis
If you would’ve told me last year at this time that the Angels would have a huge edge in the starting pitching department with Garrett Richards over Clay Buchholz, I would’ve referred you to the nearest mental health facility. However, such is the case tonight, and quite frankly the disparity in their performance lines is stunningly in large favor to the Angels hurler. The Angels can ill afford to let a struggling starting pitcher off the hook, especially after battling so hard to finally catch the Oakland A’s.
