Could this be a massive money making opportunity for all of you Texas Rangers (61-92) backers? The Rangers have won 7 straight games and are playing against the superior L.A. Angels (95-59) who have nothing to play for and could be sitting starters.

First pitch is set for 9:05 p.m. tonight at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, California. This game can be seen on MLB TV.

Jered Weaver (17-8, 3.50) gets the start for the Halos and the MLB odds have Los Angeles as -219 betting favorites. This even makes the game more interesting. If a lesser pitcher started for Anaheim, we wouldn’t have an interest in taking Texas as the Angels would be less of a betting favorite. The betting total for the game is listed at anywhere from 7.5 to 8 runs depending on what sportsbook that you choose.

Can Texas pull off another upset and against a team with no interest in this game? A bettor can really profit off of this.

The Rangers are coming off of a massive 12-3 victory over the Angels last night. The Angels starters did play, but once the game got a bit out of hand, they got the early hook from manager Mike Scioscia.

Nearly Back To Old Form
Tonight’s test will be a bit more difficult for the Rangers as Jered Weaver is starting to show glimpses of when he was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Weaver might have 17 wins on the season, but that’s partially due to being on an offensive powerhouse with guys like Mike Trout, Cole Kalhoun, and Albert Pujols that will provide run support for him. That said, Weaver has been fairly effective lately. He’s allowed 3 runs or less in his last 7 starts. His last start was brilliant as he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits in 7 innings in a win over Houston in which he struck out 12 batters. Can Weaver stop the Rangers, who have been on fire is the question?

Victor Martinez For AL MVP
I’m a huge Mike Trout fan and he is the face of baseball for the next 15 to 20 years, but let’s face it, Victor Martinez is helping Detroit win their division and has been the more consistent and productive player.

For the season, Trout has 34 HR, 107 RBI, a .288 BA, and 14 SB. These are great numbers for such a young man. That said, Trout is hitting .274 in the month of September and that’s after a week in which he went 6 for 18. He hasn’t been nearly as consistent as last season. You don’t know whether he’ll go 3 for 4 or 0 for 4 and that’s been the difference in his game this season.

Obviously, Los Angeles is the better team, but I do worry that if Los Angeles gets a few runs behind, Scioscia might pull every starter. On the other hand, Weaver has been a beast.

I know that Weaver has pitched fantastic, but when you get a team that’s consistently listed at odds of +200 or more and have won 7 games in a row, you have to take them with your MLB picks; no question in my mind.
