2014 Series Finale for Padres/Giants
The Giants will host the Padres tonight in San Francisco with the first pitch slated for 10:15 PM ET. According to MLB odds, the Giants are a -150 money line home favorite, and the posted total is 6.5. The Giants have gone 20-8 in their last 28 home games versus the Padres.

Padres Finishing Strong
San Diego entered last night’s game having won 5 of their last 6, and 7 of the last 9-games. It’s amazing that a team (San Diego) which has gone a very good 48-34 (.585) at home this season, can be the polar opposite on the road by going a dismal 28-49 (.364). Ultimately, that and the fact they were the worst hitting team in baseball, was their downfalls regarding being a legitimate playoff contender. The Padres starting pitching has been solid all season, and their bullpen has been one of the best in all of baseball.

Giants Slump at the Wrong Time
The Giants went into last night’s game against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers having lost 4 of the last 5 and 7 of their last 10. In those previous 10-games, they hit an abysmal .205 as a team, and a miserable .185 versus right-handed pitching. The Giants went into their game last night trailing the Pirates by a half-game for the top wild card spot in the National League. Getting home field for the one-game wild card playoff game can be a huge factor, considering the Pirates have gone a terrific 51-30 (.630) at home this season, and just 35-41 (.461) on the road.

Final Analysis
Both of these starting pitchers enter tonight in very good form during their recent starts. When considering your MLB picks keep in mind the Padres Andrew Cashner has gone 3-0 against the money in his last 3 with a stellar 1.50 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and a better than 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Giants Yesemiro Petit has posted a sparkling 2.53 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and a 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio over his last 3-starts.

Considering the Padres are hitting an anemic .218 on the road this season, and the Giants are producing very little offensively during their last 10-games, I look for this one to be a low scoring affair. There’s a reason why this total is so low.
