Sporting the best record in baseball, the LA Angels take aim at their fifth straight win Saturday when they continue their weekend MLB odds series against the Oakland Athletics.

Mike Scioscia and the Los Angeles Angels are on a roll, their 4-game win streak helping the club to the only .600+ winning percentage in the Major League Baseball standings. As confident as they are right now, however, winning a 5th-straight on what should've been Garrett Richards' turn in the rotation could turn out to be LA's biggest victory of the year.

One of the final games on Saturday's card has yet to make its way onto SBR's live MLB odds after the Angels delayed announcing their pitching plans for the matchup with the Oakland Athletics until late Friday evening. Scioscia finally decided on Cory Rasmus in the 9:05 PM (ET) contest while Oakland counters with Jeff Samardzija.

Halos Stretch Division Lead To 3 Games
Victories in first two games of this long set have helped the Angels widen their gap atop the AL West to three games over Oakland. Thursday night saw LA score a 4-3 walk-off triumph, Howie Kendrick's sac fly plating Albert Pujols with the winner in the 10th inning. Los Angeles relievers stifled Oakland's lineup with 4.1 no-hit innings as the matchup fell just short of the 7.5 run total.

Friday was Jered Weaver's turn to keep A's bats quiet as the righthander threw the first seven innings of a 4-0 decision in yet another 'under' between the clubs at Angel Stadium. Oakland still has an 8-6 advantage over LA on the season, but the Angels have a 5-3 edge in the eight games in Anaheim where totals are running 2-5-1 (O/U/P).

One more series between the clubs remains on the 2014 MLB betting card, a 3-game set in Oakland during the final week of the regular season.  The A's are 5-1 vs. the Angels at home.

Rasmus Set For 1st MLB Starting Assignment
Jeff Samardzija is getting his first taste of this rivalry with Saturday's assignment, and let's hope he wasn't up all night Friday having nightmares about the only time he faced the Angels before this. The former Notre Dame star was hammered by the Halos in July 2013 while he was still in a Cubs uni, Josh Hamilton connecting for two of the four homers Samardzija allowed before he was relieved in the fifth trailing 8-1.

The A's have won seven of his 10 starts since acquiring Samardzija from Chicago in early July, good enough for a little more than three units of profit. Betting the high side of the totals in those contests has also produced seven wins in 10 wagers.

After making 43 relief appearances the past two seasons for the Angels and Braves, Rasmus is getting the opportunity to start his first big league game due to Richards' season-ending knee injury a little more than a week ago. The Georgia native has been primarily used in long-relief out of Scioscia's bullpen, and was stretched out a bit Monday when he threw a career-high 51 pitches in LA's 7-1 loss to Miami. Four innings and/or 60 tosses is all we should expect this evening from Rasmus, whose history against the A's covers 6.2 IP over five outings with just two earned runs scoring.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick
Working the dish for Gerry Davis' umpiring crew Saturday should be Will Little, a Tennessee native who has spent most of the past two seasons roving in and out of various foursomes as a fill-in. Six of Little's last nine plate assignments never made it to the totals, leaving him 13-15 O/U on the campaign. This will be the first time he's called balls and strikes in Anaheim, or in a game involving the Angels, for that matter.

It's going to be on the warm side in Anaheim this afternoon, and still in the mid-80s for the local 6 PM start. I'm thinking 9 for the total, and like the 'under' trend in Anaheim to be bucked in this one.
