Los Angeles continue their push toward the playoffs with a three-game series against the Mets at Chavez Ravine, starting Friday night (10:10 pm ET).

We'll keep an eye on the happenings at Dodger Stadium this weekend, and provide updated pitching match-ups and free MLB picks here, for our readers' enjoyment.

Mets-Dodgers Betting Odds
As of early Friday morning the best price we could find on LA with Dan Haren was the -129 MLB Odds offered at Pinnacle, while 5Dimes was giving New York and Jonathon Niese +122. The Dodgers could also be bet at around +160 giving the run and a half on the run line.

And the total on Friday's game was proffered at 7.5.

Also, Bookmaker was chalking the Blue Crew at -200 to win this series, with the Mets getting +170.

Series Set-Up
Los Angeles just took two of three games at home from San Diego, getting a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth from Justin Turner to win Thursday's rubber match 2-1. The Dodgers are 3-3 over their last six series, going 10-10 over their last 20 games.

LA, at 72-57, leads the NL West by 3.5 games over second-place San Francisco. The Dodgers also trail Washington by 2.5 game in the battle for the best record in the National League.

New York, meanwhile, just split two games in Oakland, beating Jeff Samardzija Wednesday 8-5. The Mets are 0-1-2 in their last three series, losing six of their last nine games.

New York, at 60-68, trails first-place Washington by 14 games in the NL East, and sits eight games off the pace in the battle for that second NL wild-card spot.

This is the second meeting this season between these two teams; back in May the Dodgers went into Citi Field and took two of three games, with two of those games playing 'over' the totals.

Friday's Starters
Haren (10-10, 4.59), by our strict standards, is just 9/25 on quality starts this year, but two for his last three. Last time out the Brewers got him for six runs, three earned, in three innings, but in his two starts previous to that he held the Angels and Braves to three runs through 13 1/3 innings.

For the season Haren has allowed more hits, 156, than IP, 143, walked 32 and struck out 109. LA, a team that's 15 games above .500 overall, is 12-13 in Haren's starts, with the totals going 14-11.

Haren, pitching for Washington, started four times against the Mets last year, giving up 13 ER and 20 hits through 19 innings; his Nats split those two games.

Niese (7-8, 3.50) is 11/23 on quality starts, which is perhaps a little deceiving; he's gone at least six innings 18 times, and allowed more than three ER just twice. Last time out he gave up three runs in six innings against the Cubs, and just before that he held the Phillies to two runs through seven innings.

On the season Niese has allowed 142 hits in 141 innings, walked 39 and struck out 102. New York is 12-11 in Niese's starts, with the totals going 8-10.

Niese started once earlier this season against Los Angeles, giving up three runs and four hits through seven innings of a 5-3 Mets victory back in May.

As for the bullpens in this series New York ranks ninth with a 3.26 ERA, with 31 saves but 18 blown saves, while LA ranks 19th with a 3.70 ERA and 39 saves in 50 chances.

With the Sticks
New York ranks 23rd in team OBP at .307, 28th in scoring at 3.8 runs per game. The Mets have been held to three runs or fewer in seven of their last nine games.

Los Angeles ranks fifth in OBP at .327, 14th in scoring at 4.1 RPG. But the Dodgers have been held to three runs or less in five of their last six games.

Mets-Dodgers Betting Trends
Games played at Dodger Stadium has leaned toward the 'overs' this season by a 35-24 margin.

Injury Update
LA is still playing without SS Hanley Ramirez (oblique) and 3B Juan Uribe, although there's a chance Hanley could return for the final game of this series Sunday.

Free MLB Pick
We have little faith in Haren, and consider both bullpens a bit iffy. So even though both lineups have had some trouble scoring lately we'll go with the 'over' 7.5 runs for our free MLB pick on Friday's game.
