The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their dominance of the Diamondbacks this season with a 9-5 win Tuesday, and they're huge MLB odds favorites to do it again Wednesday in Phoenix.

If you're a lover of big chalk/big underdog matchups, then tonight's contest in Arizona between the Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers should be right up your alley.

Los Angeles and Arizona finish up a quick 2-game set with the biggest MLB odds on Wednesday's betting card.  The 9:40 PM (ET) tilt at Chase Field is a clash of lefthanders, one of them just happening to be the best pitcher in the game today, Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw and Los Angeles are drawing a chalk line in the -225 to -230 range, up about a quarter from the opening bell.  The D-backs counter with Wade Miley on the mound, and we're seeing 7 for a total after a few 6.5's were sprinkled in at times overnight.

LA Uses Big Inning To Take Game 1 In Phoenix
A 6-run fourth inning propelled the Dodgers past the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, 9-5.  Dee Gordon led Los Angeles' 14-hit attack with three singles, four other batters in Don Mattingly's lineup contributing two base knocks.

The victory helped the Dodgers maintain their 5-game lead in the NL West over the Giants who topped the Rockies on Tuesday, 3-0, behind Madison Bumgarner's complete game 1-hitter.  Los Angeles also drew to within 1.5 games of the Washington Nationals for the best record in the National League/

Wednesday is the final contest in Phoenix between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks this season.  They have one more 3-game set in LA a little more than a week from now, and the Dodgers are 11-4 in this year's series.  Los Angeles has made itself right at home at Chase Field, winning seven of the nine played here in 2014.  Totals have run 5-4 O/U in those matches.

Kershaw & Miley In Rematch From Down Under Clash
This is the second time Kershaw and Miley have squared off in 2014, the first coming way back in March when the clubs opened the MLB campaign in Sydney, Australia.  As he has in 14 subsequent assignments -- LA 17-4 in his 21 starts -- Kershaw emerged the winner with 6.2 innings of 1-run, 7-K baseball.  Miley struck out eight to upstage Kershaw in that column, but allowed all three Dodger runs in five frames.

Kershaw has seen the Diamondbacks twice since then, one a very good start in Los Angeles and the other his worst outing of 2014 in Phoenix (1.2 IP, 7 ER).  The latter was his 5th-straight loss in as many starts at Chase Field where Kershaw is 3-6 with a 4.10 ERA over his career.

The loss to Kershaw in the season opener was one of four Miley has suffered at the hands of the Dodgers this season.  He pitched well enough to beat them in another start, but no-decisioned in an eventual 4-2 Arizona victory in LA that took 12 innings.  Several Dodger hitters have given Miley trouble along the way, including Scott Van Slyke who might get a spot-start in this one with a .438 average and 4 HR against the southpaw.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick
Calling balls and strikes Wednesday should be veteran umpire and crew chief Gerry Davis.  The St. Louis native, who earlier this season celebrated the 32nd anniversary of working his first MLB contest, stands 10-11-3 (O/U/P) on the season, but that record has trended to the high side of totals in his recent plate assignments.

Three of his last four games behind the dish have gone past the mark, the fourth pushing an 8 run total, and his two contests this season at Chavez Ravine have finished 1-0-1 (O/U/P).  Davis has been a friend to home teams all season, 20 of his 24 dish assignments ending in defeats for the visitors, including three of four as the favorite.

I would love a $2 payday on an Arizona victory, and am certainly tempted to try it given Kershaw's recent lack of success in this building.  But neither Miley nor the rest of his compadres lend much confidence to the equation, so let's get behind the bats for our free MLB pick.

My pick: Dodgers-Diamondbacks Over 7 (+100)

Season: 107-112 (-5.85)
