Handicapping a meaningless MLB game this late in the season can be a monumental chore. Read this article by our MLB betting guru Ross Benjamin as he breaks down tonight’s Orioles/Yankees game, and concludes with a free pick on the total.

Final Home Stand for the Yankees
The Yankees host the Orioles today in the Bronx with the first pitch slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to MLB odds, the Yankees are a -125 money line home favorite, and the posted total is 7.0. The Orioles have gone 11-4 against the Yankees this season, and just 4 of those 15-games went over the total.

The Starting Pitchers
The Orioles starter tonight will be southpaw will be Wei-Yin Chen. He enters tonight in excellent form over his last 3-starts by posting a 1.46 ERA. Chen has seen just 5 of his 21-starts go over the total during night games in 2014. He’s also gone a very profitable 19-10 against the money this season with a solid 3.38 ERA.

The Yankees will send right-hander Michael Pineda to the mound for the opening game of this series. Pineda was placed the disabled list after his start on April 23rd, and didn’t make another appearance until August 13th. He’s surely made up from lost time upon his return, posting a sparkling 2.30 ERA in 7-starts.

Orioles Looking Ahead to the Postseason
Although the Orioles officially clinched the AL East title last week, they’ve had firm control of the division over the past 6-weeks. The main priority at this juncture is to stay mentally sharp, and avoid injuries during the final week of the regular season.

Emotional Final Home Series for the Yankees
Tonight be the opener of what promises to be an emotional 4-game series at Yankee Stadium. One of the greatest players of our generation, Derek Jeter, will be playing his final 4 home games of his illustrious career. Jeter has spent his entire 19-year MLB career with the Yankees, which is absolutely unheard of in this day and age. He’s appeared in 7 World Series with the Yankees, and has collected 3457-hits heading into the final week of his career.

Final Analysis
The Yankees have seen just 29 of their 77 home games (37.1%) this season go over the total. The Orioles enter tonight having gone over the total in only 4 of their last 16-games. Both of these starting pitchers are in very good form in recent starts. I’m leaning toward this one being a low scoring affair for our MLB picks.
