Battle of Florida Continues
The Rays will host the Marlins on Wednesday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida with the first pitch coming at 7:10 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds the Rays are a -180 money line home favorite and the posted total is 7.0. This will be the 3rd of a 4-game Interleague series between these in state rivals. The Marlins took the first 2-games in Miami by winning 3-1 on Monday, and 1-0 last night. Despite those recent two losses versus the Marlins, the Rays have gone 9-3 over the last 3 seasons when these teams have met, including 4-1 at Tropicana Field.
The Starting Pitchers
The Rays will send their ace David Price to the hill tonight. Price has had a disappointing start to the season by his standards. The southpaw has a 4.27 ERA in 12 starts this season, and an even higher 5.13 ERA in his 6 starts at home. Price has seen 15 of his 20 starts go over the total during the last 2 seasons when installed as a money line favorite of -125 to -175.
The Marlins will counter with right-hander Tom Koehler on the mound. Koehler has been solid in 11 starts this season posting a stellar 3.18 ERA.
Rays are Reeling
The Tampa Bay Rays entered this season with high expectations, and as a very confident ball club. However, early returns have shown them to be a huge bust so far. Currently the Rays are in last place in the AL East, and find themselves a distant 12.0 games behind the division leading Toronto Blue Jays. The Rays enter tonight having lost their last 8-games in a row. They've scored 2-runs or less in each of their previous 6-games, and have scored a combined 6-runs over their last 7-games.
Early Surprise in the National
I know it's way too early in the season to draw any conclusions, or to get overly enamored with any team's start to the year. Having said that, I don't think many people out there would've predicted the Marlins to be in 2nd place in the NL East, 1.5 games out of first place, and after having played 58-games. Miami has been especially tough at home this season going 22-11 in their friendly confines, but has gone a dismal 8-17 on the road. The bad news for the Marlins is that they enter tonight having hit a paltry .217 as a team over their previous 5-games. The good news is that they've gone an excellent 11-1 this season after hitting .225 or less as a team in their previous 5.

Any money line road underdog of +100 or more that has a winning record on the year, versus an opponent that's lost 5 or more games in a row, and they have a winning percentage of .380 to .460, has gone 50-26 (65.8%) during the last 17 seasons. Bet the Miami Marlins to go +170 over Tampa!
