We look to the Red Sox and Cardinals matchup tonight, as we believe that Lance Lynn and the red birds hold a signifigant edge over the competition. Find out how we have decided to place our MLB picks in tonight's matchup.

With a 162 regular season game schedule, there is less room for emotion than is exhibited in the weekly football season.  Nonetheless, there are certain instances in the course of the season when emotion plays a part in a specific game.  Fueled by a huge home/road dichotomy and current form differential in the pitching numbers, this 10* Revenge Game of the Month deserves to be at the top of your MLB betting ticket today!

Boston Red Sox (De La Rosa) at St. Louis Cardinals (Lynn) (-150) 8:15 ET

10* St. Louis (-150)

With a 162 regular season game schedule, there is less room for emotion than is exhibited in the weekly football season.  Nonetheless, there are certain instances in the course of the season when emotion plays a part in a specific game.  Fueled by a huge home/road dichotomy and current form differential in the pitching numbers, this 10* Revenge Game of the Month deserves to be at the top of your ticket today!  These two teams met in the 2013 World Series to determine the best baseball team in the world.  When the smoke cleared in late October, the Red Sox prevailed.  Since that time, however, this Boston franchise has taken a U-turn looking little like a World Series champion.  As they enter Tuesday night’s play, against the team they defeated for the crown, Boston stands 49-62, including 22-31 away.

With the knowledge they will not be playing in the post-season party, the Red Sox have recently traded their top 3 starters.  That includes, Lester, Lackey and Peavy, a trio of savvy veterans.  With remaining starter, Buchholz, struggling mightily this season, it has paved the way for Rubby De La Rosa to step into the starting rotation.  His performance both on the road and in his last 2 starts have left much to be desired.  In 4 road starts this season, De La Rosa has a 6.04 ERA in 22 1/3 IP.  His most recent 2 starts have been against the big bats of the Blue Jays.  Those games have resulted in 10 innings of work in which De La Rosa allowed 10 runs on 18 hits with a disturbing 2/4 KBB.  In short, both Boston and De La Rosa are a pure play against.

St. Louis continues to have the motivation of playing in the role of hunter.  They now trail Milwaukee by a single game in the standings, though tied in the loss column.  In addition, they have just a ½ game lead on the Pirates in the Wild Card race.  Contrast that to Boston, who has clearly tossed the towel, with a recent record of 2-10 in which they have been outscored 73-33.  Lynn has pitched his best baseball from this mound where in 12 starts over 76 IP, he has a 2.72 ERA.  Five recent starts have shown him to be in outstanding form.  In 31 2/3 IP, Lynn has allowed just 8 runs on 25 hits with a 1.71 ERA.  With the clear motivation of the divisional standings and World Series revenge, combined with the home/road divergence and current form of starter stats, this is an outstanding Top of the Ticket play for Tuesday, August 5th.
