After scoring a surprising amount of runs yesterday, I'm betting 'under' the total when the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Pirates today, with Mat Latos starting for LA, & Francisco Liriano for Pittsburgh.

Dodgers vs. Pirates Betting Odds
MLB odds makers have come out with this game for a total of 7 which seems just about right. The best odds on under the total is at Bookmaker sports book and BetDSI at -105. After yesterday's surprisingly high scoring game with a 5-4 final I thought this game might come out at 7.5, the fact that the odds makers have this much respect for these two pitchers tells me this has a very good shot to be a low-scoring affair.

Charles also recommends betting Giants +135 vs. Cubs, today.

Los Angeles Dodgers
For the Dodgers Latos takes the mound with a 4.29 ERA, 1.22 whip, 80 strikeouts, and a 4-7 record. With the Dodgers he is 1-0 and pitched a gem against the Los Angeles Angels allowing just one earned run in six innings. He should be feeling pretty renewed now back in the playoff race and has a career ERA of 3.42 and a whip of 1.17 in 170 career starts. In his last total five starts, four with Miami, he has only allowed seven total earned runs. I predict for him to have a real solid quality start today.

Offensively the Dodgers rank 13th in runs scored per game at 4.18, fifth in OPS at .755, and 12th in team batting average hitting .254. On the road although stats go down for the Dodgers and after six hits yesterday I don't anticipate them to have much success against Liriano.

Pittsburgh Pirates
On the mound for Pittsburgh Liriano comes in with a 2.92 ERA, 1.06 whip, 140 strikeouts, and a 7-6 record. He is also coming off one of his tougher outings of the year even though he only allowed two earned runs he did allowed 10 hits in just five innings. In his last 10 starts he has been fantastic with only one real bad outing allowing five earned runs in five innings at Washington. Besides that in those other 9 out of 10 starts he has been excellent. Strangely enough his ERA jumps up a little bit at home but he still allowing batters only to hit .202 against him in Pittsburgh.

At the plate the Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the middle tiered offenses in the major leagues and rank 16th in runs scored per game at 4.12, 17th in OPS at .703, and eighth in batting average hitting .257 as a team. Getting some runs off a Kershaw could boost their confidence for today along with the fact they got 14 total hits yesterday. Still, Latos is no slouch and could easily come in and shut the door against a decent but not great Pittsburgh offense. Statistically Pittsburgh's OPS and on base percentage are just a little bit worse against right-handers than they are against left-handers.

MLB Betting Verdict
It is that time a year when every game matters and I'm sure Pittsburgh is feeling good about their chances going towards the pennant. Today though I think this will be a tight low-scoring affair with two pretty decent offenses against a really solid starter for the Pirates and a reinvigorated starter for the Dodgers. This should be more zeros on the board than people anticipate, back the under for your MLB pick.
