The NY Yankees are favored by the MLB betting lines as they look to complete a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals Wednesday afternoon at the Stadium.
Wednesday's Betting Odds
In the early MLB odds, New York and Michael Pineda were trading at around -140 over KC and Chris Young, with a total of 7.5 runs.
New York has taken the first two games of this series by scores of 14-1 and 5-1. Tuesday night Mark Teixeira knocked in four runs and starter Adam Warren fashioned a quality start in leading the Yanks to victory.
With its two wins in this series, and “help” from Tampa Bay, New York has re-taken the lead in the AL East.
Meanwhile, KC has lost three in a row for the first time this season, scoring a total of three runs in the process.
Keep in mind when preparing your MLB pick that Pineda is running hot-'n-cold this season, and at the moment he's running cold. A few weeks ago he posted a nice run of four good starts in a row, including that 16-whiff performance against Baltimore. But since then he got nicked for five runs in 5 1/3 innings against these Royals, and last time out the Rangers got him for seven runs – four earned – in six innings. New York is 6-3 in Pineda's starts this year, with the totals skewing OVER 6-1.
Last year Pineda allowed just one ER through 13 1/3 innings against Kansas City.
Young has been super since joining the Royals rotation earlier this month. Last time out he threw six scoreless innings against St. Louis, and just before that he held these Yankees to one run through 5 2/3 innings. Through four starts he's allowed just one earned run through 22 2/3 innings; KC has won all four of his starts, with three of them staying UNDER the totals.
Since the beginning of last season (when he was with Seattle) Young has started three times against the Yanks, allowing six ER through 16 1/3 innings; his teams won two of those games.
Baseball Betting Verdict
The Kansas City lineup is one of the best in the Majors against right-handed pitching, and Young has been tough recently. The value on today's line resides with the Royals. Also, games played at Yankee Stadium are 11-7 on the OVERS this season, so we're thinking OVER.
