We are bringing back the OPOD today and taking over the total between the Cleveland Indians and Milwaukee Brewers. Find out whether we're going over or under with our MLB picks.
This is obviously not one of the marquee matchups of the day, but it doesn't change what I think is a solid play. MLB odds makers have come out with this line at 8.5 for the total and the best part about that is it is still on the plus money line. At Pinnacle sports for over the 8.5 you can get it at +107, again good value on today's OPOD.
For the Brewers Kyle Lohse takes the mound with a 6.17 ERA and 1.40 WHIP, and you might be asking me what is it about these numbers that makes this an OPOD? Well, Lohse is a solid veteran pitcher and although he is having a rough season, in his last five games the most runs he is given up is four. Definitely nothing to shout about but this is in an NL park so no DH and Cleveland is only a subpar hitting team. For the Indians Cody Anderson takes the mound with a 0.89 ERA and a 0.66 WHIP. He has only had four career starts but he has been stellar in each of those contests allowing only three runs in 30 innings. For a rookie he has been lights out and our OPOD comes into play with him facing a Milwaukee team, that is like the Indians, only a subpar offensive team.
At the plate we're looking at two teams that are mediocre offensively this season. The Brewers rank 17th in runs scored per game with the Indians right behind them ranked 20th. In OPS they are ranked right next to each other right in the middle of the league with Cleveland at 18th and the Brewers 19th. In batting average we see more the same with the Brewers ranked 18th and the Indians ranked 20th. This NL game is at 8.5? Again, this does not make a lot of sense to me and is a perfect fit for our OPOD.
With two mediocre offenses, a pitcher that has been lights out so far, and a good veteran pitcher that is struggled some this year this line at 8.5 just seems too high. Odds makers are seeing something on this game to set this line and I'm going to back them on the high number and look for both these teams to have a lot of quality at-bats today at the plate, back the over with confidence.
