The Cleveland Indians are on the verge of being eliminated from postseason contention, but they’ll offer some value as potential home underdogs against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday.

Kansas City has won three games in a row for the first time since capturing four consecutive contests from Sept. 1-5, as it comes off a 7-1 victory over Cleveland as +112 road underdogs, while going OVER the betting total for the first time in four opportunities.

The Royals still trail the Tigers by a single game in the American League Central standings, which is important to consider when making your MLB betting picks, but they happen to be tied with the Oakland Athletics for the top Wild Card spot.

MLB handicappers will find that the squad has captured 18 of its last 25 affairs when playing away from home, while it has compiled a 36-35 mark versus division rivals.

On the Brink
Cleveland has split its 18 meetings against Kansas City this season, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB odds, especially since the franchise will be watching postseason play at home with its next loss.

Tribe outfielder Michael Brantley is the main player to watch offensively, as he’s 4 for 8 with two doubles against tonight’s opposing starter, while he’s put together a .413 batting average in hitting safely in 26 of his last 27 contests.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the club is 30-30 at home with a moneyline of -100 to -125, with the OVER going 34-25-1 in that situation.

Royals starting pitcher Jason Vargas (11-10, 3.59 ERA) has fallen in defeat in five of his last six trips to the mound, including a 10-1 home loss to the Detroit Tigers last time out—surrendering five runs and nine hits over 3.1 innings of work.

The left-hander is 5-4 with a 2.42 ERA in 13 road starts—the AL’s third-best road ERA at this point of the season.

In eight career efforts versus the Royals, Vargas has tallied a 3-3 record and 4.88 ERA, including a 1-1 mark in three outings in 2014.

Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer (5-8, 4.06 ERA) is searching for his first win since Aug. 24, as he didn’t earn a decision in a 5-4 road loss to the Minnesota Twins last time out, as he allowed three runs and four hits over six frames.

The right-hander is 4-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 13 home games, with opposing hitters batting .240 against him (.272 on the road).

Bauer has produced a 0-1 record and 2.45 ERA in two lifetime starts versus the Royals—averaging 5.7 punch outs per contest.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Indians as one of their MLB picks, but only if they end up going off as a home underdog, as they’ve won nine of their last 11 games in that role.
