San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Two very suspect starters will take the mound in this game at Miller Park. Cesar Vargas will get the nod for San Diego and he has been very hittable and has also struggled with control. Vargas has a 5.79 ERA in two road starts allowing 6 runs on 14 hits in 9.1 innings. His overall ERA is 3.54 but his FIP and xFIP are 4.35 and 4.94 and his SIERA is 5.35 which is indicative of a pitcher that is likely to struggle moving forward.

Zach Davies remains a ‘bet against’ pitcher for me and will be on the mound for Milwaukee. Davies has a 6.29 ERA and has allowed 18 runs on 33 hits in 24.1 innings pitched with 13 walks and 14 strikeouts and his 4.81 walks per 9 innings is nearly as high as his 5.18 strikeouts per 9 innings along with a very low 6.8% swinging strike rate all paint a very clear picture that he is not missing many bats.

This game should see some runs scored in it and it’s worth noting the Over is 4-1 in Zach Davies 5 starts this season, which makes it an appealing MLB pick.

San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Matt Cain and Rubby De La Rosa square off in the series finale between NL West rivals San Francisco and Arizona. Matt Cain has been a pitcher to fade most of the season for me and although he is coming off one of his best outings of the season against Toronto in which he yielded just 2 runs in 8 innings, he still has a lot to prove especially on the road where Cain has been absolutely hammered in his previous starts away from home allowing 12 runs on 13 hits in 10.2 innings.

Arizona will counter with Rubby De La Rosa who has been plagued with inconsistency in the past but is showing signs of figuring out how to be an effective starting pitcher here in the Major Leagues. De La Rosa has put together 5 solid starts in a row including B2B strong starts here at Chase Field in which De La Rosa allowed a single run in 13 innings pitched over his last two home starts against St. Louis and Pittsburgh.

San Francisco still hasn’t fully climbed out of their offensive funk as they have scored 4 runs or less in 6 straight games and they hit into several double plays against what had been a struggling Shelby Miller in the Friday night game of this series against Arizona and that doesn’t bode well for a ton of success at the plate here against De La Rosa who has really gotten himself into a good rhythm for the Diamondbacks in recent starts. Arizona at -119 on the MLB odds is a reasonable price to lay here in a game where the Diamondbacks should hold the upper hand.
