The Los Angeles Dodgers own baseball’s best record against southpaw starters, which provides a major edge over the San Diego Padres Wednesday night.

Giving Up Runs
San Diego has compiled a 5.93 ERA in dropping four of its first five on a 10-game road trip, which includes an 8-6 setback to Los Angeles as +100 underdogs Tuesday, while going OVER the betting total for a third consecutive contest.

The Padres have managed to pace the Senior Circuit in averaging 4.6 runs per game since the All-Star break, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB betting odds, but they’ve also produced a dismal 3-8 mark versus the Blue Crew.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 23-50 as underdogs of +125 to +150 when playing away from Petco Park.

A Great Situation
Los Angeles has produced a money-making 20-10 mark against left-handed starters this season, which is one of the main reasons why the club owns a 4.5-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West standings.

The Dodgers will likely lean on outfielder Carl Crawford at the plate in this affair, as he’s 16 for 32 with eight runs scored in his last nine contests, while he’s managed to bat .500 in 10 at-bats versus tonight’s opposing starter.

It’s important to point out that the squad is 8-9 as home favorites of -125 to -150, with the OVER going 12-4-1 in those 17 opportunities.

Padres starting pitcher Eric Stults (5-13, 4.64 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 4-3 setback on the road to the St. Louis Cardinals last time out, but he’s still garnered a 2-0 record and 1.37 ERA in three trips to the mound this month.

The left-hander is 1-9 with a 5.11 ERA in 14 road appearances—serving up 15 home runs in 75.2 combined frames.

In six outings against the Dodgers, Stults has compiled a 1-4 record and 3.96 ERA, including a 1-2 mark and 3.70 ERA in four efforts at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez (7-8, 3.72 ERA) is coming off a 6-4 road win over the Atlanta Braves last Thursday—giving up just a single run and three hits over six innings of work.

The right-hander has put together a solid 2.73 ERA over his last nine efforts, with opposing hitters batting just .186 against him over that span.

Hernandez earned a 4-2 victory over the Padres in his only career starts against them on May 12, 2013 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Dodgers as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve gone 33-18 versus division opponents during the 2014 campaign.
