Los Angeles shoots for a sweep of Arizona Wednesday night at Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers are of course favored, but where does the value on tonight's betting line reside?
D'Backs-Dodgers Wednesday Betting Odds
As of early Wednesday AM the best line we could find on MLB odds board for LA and Brett Anderson was the -187 offered at BetOnline, while 5Dimes was giving Arizona and Jeremy Hellickson +179. Also, most books were listing the total on tonight's game at 7.5 runs, but there were a few sevens out there.
The Dodgers have taken the first two games of this series, by scores of 9-3 Monday and 3-1 Tuesday. So Los Angeles has won three of its last four games, while Arizona has lost three in a row.
LA now leads the series series with the Snakes six games to two, with the totals going 3-4-1. The Blue Crew has also beaten the D'Backs eight times in a row at Dodger Stadium.
At 34-25 the Dodgers lead the NL West by a game over San Francisco and 6.5 games over 27-31 Arizona.
Wednesday's Starting Pitchers
Anderson (2-4, 3.29) is only four-for-11 on quality starts this season, but three for his last three. Last time out he held St. Louis to two runs through 7 2/3 innings, and over his last three starts, covering 20 2/3 innings, he's allowed just six runs. For the season Anderson has allowed 65 hits through 63 innings; Los Angeles is 5-6 in Anderson's starts, with the totals tilting toward the UNDERS by 7-4 margin.
In three career starts against Arizona, two earlier this season and one last season, Anderson has allowed six earned runs through 18 innings; all three of those starts played UNDER.
Hellickson (4-3, 4.88) is also only four-for-11 on quality starts this season, but three for his last four. Last time out he held the Mets to two runs through six innings, and over his last four starts he's allowed nine runs through 24 2/3 innings. On the season Hellickson has allowed 68 hits, including nine homers, through 62 2/3 innings; the Diamondbacks are 5-6 in Hellickson's starts, with the totals leaning UNDER 5-4.
In two career starts against Los Angeles, one last month and one two years ago when he was with Tampa, Hellickson allowed seven runs through 8 1/3 innings; his teams lost both those games, and both games played OVER.
Wednesday's Batting Splits
Arizona ranks seventh in the Majors this season with a .331 team OPB against left-handed pitching.
Los Angeles leads the Majors with a .342 team OBP against right-handed pitching.
Games played at Dodger Stadium are 21-12 on the OVERS this season, indicating perhaps that oddsmakers have been low-balling their totals on Dodgers home games.
D'Backs-Dodgers Free Picks
We missed with our free MLB pick on Arizona Tuesday night, but we still believe the value on tonight's line resides with the Diamondbacks. Also, these two starting pitchers have been good as of late, so we're thinking UNDER.
