The Braves look to continue their win streak in Pittsburgh tonight, and the Pirates hole to end their skid.  Where has our capper found MLB odds value for this clash?

So much for suspense. Atlanta scored six times before the crowd at PNC Park on Monday had time to get comfortable in their seats, and the Braves cruised to a 7-3 victory in the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jason Heyward and Andrelton Simmons fueled the early scoring barrage with solo home runs off Pittsburgh's Vance Worley, helping the Braves to their fourth consecutive win to just keep up with the red-hot Washington Nationals, winners of 7-straight.  The setback was the Pirates' 6th-straight, leaving them 7-10 for the month.

Pittsburgh hopes to snap both streaks Tuesday night (7:05 PM ET), and the MLB betting board favors the Bucs to do just that.  Francisco Liriano is next in Clint Hurdle's rotation, and the Pirates are priced around -150 on the moneyline, up from the -140 opener.  Gredi Gonzalez sends Aaron Harang to the bump for the Braves, SBR's live MLB betting odds showing 7 for the total.

Both Starters Mired In Winless Streaks
Harang's 2014 has been a tale of two halves, at least as far as Atlanta's W-L record goes.  The Braves rolled to 12 wins in the righthander's 19 assignments before the all-star break, good enough to put nearly 4.5 units into baseball bettors' accounts, but they have since lost all six of his starts despite a respectable 3.46 ERA in the second half.

Harang has seen the Pirates often over his career, thanks to spending so much time in the NL Central with the Reds, with Tuesday's tilt his 26th against them.  Ten of those appearances have been at PNC Park where he is 7-3 with a 3.52 ERA.

Liriano is facing the Braves for just the second time in his career, the other start a good one (8 IP, 1 ER, 11 K) coming in 2010 while he was with the Twins.  The Pirates have lost all three of the lefty's August assignments, though Liriano owns a solid 2.84 ERA in those outings.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick
Vic Carapazza is expected to call balls and strikes for this one, bringing a 9-16 O/U record into the matchup.  It's his second plate assignment in Pittsburgh this year, the previous one easily topping a 7.5 run total (May 2).

There is a 10%-20% chance of rain today in Pittsburgh, but tonight's game shouldn't be affected with the thermometer in the low-80s at first pitch and only a light southerly breeze (in from right field).

One way or another, either Harang or Liriano is going to see his team's winless streak in their starts come to an end.  I'm almost tempted to back both lineups with a play on the high side of the total.  However, the lure of the current win/loss streaks belonging to Atlanta and Pittsburgh, respectively, has drawn me to a free MLB pick on the visiting underdogs.

MLB pick: Braves +135
