The Athletics visit the Rangers Friday night for the first of a 3-game weekend set and none of these teams are looking great so far. Oakland A's are the favorites for tonight, but are they our MLB pick? Find out here!
Oakland A’s (Kazmir) vs. Texas Rangers (Lewis) 8:05 ET
The Oakland A’s visits the Texas Rangers Friday night for the first of a 3-game weekend set, and they're listed on the MLB odds as short favorites. Neither of these teams is in good current form. Oakland has lost 2 straight and is on a (1-6) slide, averaging just 3.5 RPG. Texas is a likewise (1-6), scoring 2 or less runs in 5 of their most recent 6 games. But, the mismatch on the mound and the respective records of these two teams on the run line make this a strong play.
No MLB team fell further from grace last year than these Texas Rangers. After winning 184 games the previous 2 seasons, Texas dropped to 67-95 last year. Injuries were a major part of that catastrophe. This season, the Rangers have never regrouped with a 7-14 mark, tied with Cleveland for the worst in the American League. In addition, they are just 2-7 on their home field (where they went 33-48 last year), also tying Cleveland for the worst home mark in the league. A major culprit has been a struggling offense which concluded April with a .210 BA (worst in the majors). Not sure that tonight’s starter, Colby Lewis, is the answer. He simply does not seem to be the same dominant force on the mound as prior to his injury and surgery. For the year, Lewis is 1-2 with a 3.75 ERA. He comes off a start in which he lasted just 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on a 4 hits in a 4-1 loss to the troubled bats of LAA. A strong history against Oakland is just that…history! Texas has won only 3 of his last 12 home starts.
Oakland had more wins than any other team in baseball the last 3 seasons with 278 victories. Though the A’s are not expected to challenge the 90 win mark of this season, they are clearly better than their 9-14 record, a result of their recent 1-6 slide. A 9th inning rally against LAA last night may prove to be positive momentum for their 3-game weekend series in Texas. Oakland has won 10 of 13 recent meetings between these two on this field. Tonight’s starter, Kazmir, has answered all questions. For the year, Kazmir is 2-0 with a 0.99 ERA. In 27 1/3 IP this season, Kazmir has 30Ks and a .158 BAA. Kazmir has gone 4-1 in his most recent 5 starts vs. Texas with a 3.18 ERA. In his last 4 road starts, Kazmir is 2-1 with a 1.59 ERA.
We are eager to step in with a run line play in this game. Oakland has 9 wins on the season, defeating their opponents by a combined score of 68-10 to win every game by 2 or more runs. Eleven of 14 Texas’ losses, including 6 of 7 on their home field, have come by 2 or more runs. That fits perfectly with the fact that Rangers lost 41 of their 48 home losses by 2 or more runs last year. Oakland on the run line … your selection for tonight!
MLB Pick: Oakland on the run line (-1 ½ R/+105) is your MLB pick for tonight!
