The Los Angeles Angels suffered a major letdown last night after coming off a pivotal four-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics, but they’ll get back on track against the Houston Astros Wednesday.

To Be Expected
Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia was looking forward to Monday’s off day after completing a four-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics the previous week, but the club suffered a 8-3 setback to the Houston Astros as -161 road favorites Tuesday.

Angels starting pitchers have still managed to allow three or fewer runs in 20 of their last 22 trips to the mound, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB odds, while the bullpen has compiled a 2.43 ERA in its last 68 appearances.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 23-9 as road favorites of -150 to -175, with no clear edge in terms of the betting total (15-15-2 Over/Under).

New Skipper
Houston provided Tom Lawless a win in his debut as interim manager, as the club relieved Bo Porter of his duties, while Adam Everett has been added to the coaching staff to replace former bench coach Dave Trembley.

The Astros are 5-10 against the Halos this season, which is important to consider when making your MLB predictions, but their just four games under .500 in this American League West series since the start of the 2013 campaign.

Sports bettors will find that the squad has split its 18 opportunities as home underdogs of +125 to +150 this year, with the UNDER going 11-7 in that situation.

Angels starting pitcher Jered Weaver (15-7, 3.57 ERA) has led the club to four consecutive victories when taking the hill, including a 4-0 home win over the Athletics last time out, as he scattered three hits over seven shutout innings.

The right-hander is 7-3 with a 4.75 ERA in 13 road games—serving up 15 home runs in 77.2 combined frames.

In three lifetime starts versus the Astros, Weaver has compiled a 2-1 record and 3.48 ERA.

Astros starting pitcher Collin McHugh (7-9, 2.99 ERA) is enjoying a personal three-game win streak, which includes a 4-2 home victory over the Texas Rangers last time out—surrendering two runs and eight hits over seven innings of work.

The right-hander is 4-6 with a 3.92 ERA in 11 home appearances, with opposing hitters batting .212 against him (.230 on the road).

In three career games versus the Angels, McHugh has registered a 1-2 record and 2.25 ERA.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Angels on the run line as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve gone 21-7 against teams with a losing record in the second half of the season.
