At one point last season, people including myself, thought that the Angels were good enough to compete for a World Series title, but expectations have been lowered as the Angels haven’t reached the .500 mark since the 2012 season. This is pretty difficult to believe that a team with Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, Jered Weaver, and C.J. Wilson can’t reach the .500 mark for such a long period of time.
Odds makers are starting to lose respect for Los Angeles as they’re only a -133 betting favorite with Jered Weaver taking the mound. When Weaver was in his prime (before the injuries) , this team would be a -200 favorite or better.
The total for this game is 8 runs.
Can the Angels Finally Reach .500?
It appears that this might be the game that the Angels in reach the .500 mark. After an Albert Pujols celebration day yesterday for hitting his 500th home run recently, the Angels proceeded to defeat Cleveland 6-3.
This is the best that I’ve seen Pujols hit since signing that enormous contract for Los Angeles. On the season, Pujols is hitting .282 with 9 HR and 22 RBI. If he can continue to hit like this, the Angels can be a possible playoff contender again.
Jered Weaver vs. Corey Kluber
First thing is first; Jered Weaver (1-2, 4.11) is facing a tough customer tonight in the form of Corey Kluber (2-2, 3.90). Kluber is coming off of a complete game victory against the Kansas City Royals in which he allowed just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 11 batters.
Weaver must step up his game. He hasn’t been the same pitcher since being injured. We must remember that Jered Weaver is a career 114-62 pitcher with a 3.26 ERA. Even though he’s not back to his original form, he’s capable of a big-time performance at any time and the Indians are the perfect team to beat up on as they’re below average in every offensive statistical category.
Weaver has allowed just 2 runs in his last 12 innings pitched.
The Tribe can’t be happy about their offense. Jason Kipnis (.239) has gotten off to a slow start this season and Asdrubal Cabrera is hitting slightly above the Mendoza Line (.202). That said, Carlos Santana, who has a mere .140 batting average, is coming off of a big game in the 1st game of this series in which he hit his 2nd home run of the season along with 3 runs batted in. The Indians are hoping that this is the start of more to come from Santana, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
This is a great spot for the Angels as they look to reach the .500 mark. Cleveland’s offense is ineffective and Jered Weaver is showing signs of regaining his old form. Take the Angels for your Baseball picks.
