Detroit took the opener of this series Thursday night 6-4, giving us a winner on our free MLB pick on the 'over.' We'll shoot for more good fortune with a pick on Game 2 of this series Friday night (10:05 pm ET).

Friday's Betting Odds
As of early Friday AM the best price we could find on LA and lefty Tyler Skaggs was the -120 offered at BetOnline, while Detroit and fellow lefty Drew Smyly could be gotten at +116 at BetDSI. And the total on tonight's game could be found at either eight or 8.5 runs.

Thursday Re-Hash
Down 3-1, Detroit scored three times in the sixth inning, once in the seventh and once in the eighth to pull out a 6-4 victory. The Tigers got at least one hit from eight of their nine starters, to go along with a quality outing from Max Scherzer.

Detroit won as a +105 underdog on Thursday's MLB betting line.

We took the 'over' seven runs for our free pick on Thursday's game mainly because these two lineups are very tough, while both bullpens seem a bit iffy. Those lineups combined to score seven runs off Scherzer and a hot Garrett Richards, then tallied three more runs off the bullpens.

Joe Nathan looked like he may have gotten the message of Detroit's pick-up of reliever Joakim Soria, striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth for his 21st save of this season.

Friday's Starters
Skaggs (5-5, 4.65) is 7/16 on quality starts this season, but 0 for his last three. Most recently he gave up five runs in 6 2/3 innings against Seattle, and over his last three starts he's been pegged for 14 runs and 26 hits in 18 1/3 innings.

On the season Skaggs has allowed 102 hits in 103 innings, walked 27 and struck out 74. LA is 10-6 in Skaggs' starts, with the totals skewing toward the 'overs' by an 11-5 margin.

This will be Skaggs' first-ever start against Detroit.

Smyly (6-8, 3.80) is 8/16 on quality starts this year, but only one for his last four. Last time out he held Cleveland to one run through seven innings, but in his three starts previous to that he got nicked for 13 runs and 23 hits over 14 1/3 innings.

On the season Smyly has allowed 96 hits in 95 innings, walked 30 and struck out 76. Detroit is 6-10 in Smyly's starts, with the totals leaning 'over' 9-6.

Smyly has started once this season against the Angels, giving up four runs in three innings of an 11-6 Tigers loss back in April.

Free Pick for Friday
These two lineups rank among the best against left-handed pitching, and with these two bullpens there's always the chance of some late-inning fireworks. So like Thursday, we'll go with the 'over' for our free MLB pick on Friday's game, at the 8.5 runs (-110) offered at Bookmaker.
