This MLB handicapping expert provides us with a betting preview article for Game 2 of the ALDS between Detroit/Baltimore including a free money line MLB pick.

Game 2 at Camden Yards
The Orioles will host the Tigers at Camden Yards in Baltimore for Game 2 of this American League Division Series, and the first pitch is slated for 12:05 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds, the Orioles are a -109 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. The Orioles took the opening game 12-3 to capture the lead in the series. Baltimore broke open a tight 4-3 game in the bottom of the 8th with an 8-run inning. Chris Tillman earned the win, and he’s now 11-1 against the money in his last 12-starts.

Starting Pitchers for Game 2
The Tigers will go with Justin Verlander in this rare early start for a postseason game. This hasn’t been a typically dominating season for Verlander. He’s gone a solid 19-13 against the money, but posted a lofty 4.54 ERA in those 32-starts. On a positive note, Verlander comes off two consecutive stellar starts to end the regular season, allowing just 2 earned runs in 15 1/3 innings, and struck out 10 while walking none. In 2-starts versus the Orioles this season, Verlander posted a 4.50 ERA.

The Baltimore Orioles will go with southpaw Wei-Yin Chen. Chen finished the regular season by seeing 4 of his last 5-starts go under the total, and had an excellent 2.05 ERA in those outings. Chen has gone 11-4 against the money at home in 2014 with a respectable 3.76 ERA. This will be the Orioles hurler’s first start of the season versus the Tigers.

Huge Game for the Tigers
It’s not an elimination game for the Tigers, but they certainly don’t want to fall behind 2-0 in the series. The good news for Detroit, they were a good road team during the regular season by going 45-36 (.556). This is a Tigers team that finished as the best in all of baseball with .277 as a team batting average, and they were 2nd in runs scored per game. The bad news is, the Tigers have gone a dismal 1-8 in their last 9-games versus a left-handed starting pitcher.

Orioles Look for the Choke Hold
After winning Game 1, the Orioles will have an excellent opportunity to put themselves in a very advantageous situation this afternoon. With a win, they can take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best of 5-game series. That would also assure them of at the very worst, to return to Camden Yards for the deciding 5th game if necessary. Following their opening game win, the Orioles are a stellar 52-30 (.634) in their home ball park in 2014.

Final Analysis
I was a bit surprised that the Tigers opted for Justin Verlander over David Price for Game 2 of the series. Obviously Verlander has won his share of big games in his career, but you would be hard pressed to make a case he’s had a better season than Price. I have a sneaky suspicion that Verlander will reward Brad Ausmus for his confidence in him. I have a very small lean I'm applying with this MLB pick on the Tigers to even the series up.
