The Toronto Blue Jays haven’t performed well on the road against American League West opponents this season, which provides the Seattle Mariners a major edge Wednesday night.

Summertime Blues
Toronto is 3-8 this month and has been outscored 58-30 over that span, which includes suffering a pair of losses to open up this important American League series, including a 6-3 setback as +107 road underdogs Tuesday.

The Blue Jays have produced a disappointing 12-17 overall record against AL West foes, which can’t be ignored when making your MLB predictions, considering that includes a 4-12 mark when playing away from the Rogers Centre.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is a forgettable 4-13 on the road when the betting total is 7 or less, with the 'over' cashing in 13 of those opportunities.

A Bit of a Surprise
Seattle is tied with the Tigers in occupying the second AL Wild Card spot heading into tonight’s action, as it has ascended in the standings by recording a plus-36 run differential over its last 16 affairs.

Since June 1, the Mariners team ERA of 2.44 is the lowest in the Majors—nearly a half run lower than the San Diego Padres directly behind them.

MLB handicappers will find that the club has captured seven of 10 games as home favorites of -150 to -175 during the 2014 campaign.

Blue Jays starting pitcher R.A. Dickey (9-11, 3.99 ERA) has watched the team drop his last two trips to the mound, but he didn’t earn a decision in a 5-4 setback at home to the Detroit Tigers last Friday, as he allowed two runs and five hits over six frames.

The knuckleball right-hander is 3-8 with a 3.79 ERA in 12 road games—issuing 34 walks and striking out 58 batters in 76 combined innings.

Dickey is hoping to avoid matching San Diego’s Eric Stults for the MLB lead in losses away from home in this affair.

Mariners starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma (10-6, 2.86 ERA) has alternated wins and losses in his last four efforts, as he comes off a 4-1 home victory over the Chicago White Sox—surrendering just a single run and five hits over seven innings of work.

The right-hander is 5-5 with a 2.88 ERA in 11 home outings, as he’s issued just five walks and struck out 63 batters in 78 combined frames.

In four lifetime appearances (three starts) versus the Blue Jays, Iwakuma has registered a 2-1 record and 3.09 ERA, including a 1-1 mark and 1.76 ERA in two outings at Safeco Field.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Mariners as one of their MLB picks, as the Blue Jays have fallen in defeat in seven of Dickey’s last eight games as a road underdog of +110 to +150.
