Whenever an MLB odds total for an American League game is around seven that usually gets my radar up because traditionally higher totals come out for that league.

Angels vs. Athletics MLB Odds
MLB odds makers came out with the total for this game at 7.5 and then the line dropped to seven. That makes some sense considering the matchups we see today so it seems to me the MLB odds match what I think is the right number for the total. The juice is not that high going either way on the under or the over in this game and you can get under the total of seven at Pinnacle Sports at -110.

Los Angeles Angels
Andrew Heaney takes the mound for Los Angeles with a 3.11 ERA, 1.13 whip, 50 strikeouts, and a 5-2 record on the season. The 24-year-old second year major leaguer has been a pretty solid option for Los Angeles and in his last 10 starts has pitched particularly well except for one horrible outing against the league's best hitting team in the Blue Jays. In that contest he allowed eight earned runs in just three innings, but that happens to a lot of pitchers against the Blue Jays. In his other nine out of his last 10 starts he has only allowed 15 earned runs total and is coming off a very good outing in Cleveland where he allowed zero earned runs off of six hits in six innings. The future looks bright for the left-hander.

The Angels rank 24th in the major leagues in runs scored per game at 3.97, 25th in OPS at .692, and 27th in team batting average hitting .243 as a team. Their run total per game goes up slightly on the road but their OPS drops. I have backed them this season on over the total on a couple different occasions because of the talent they have and that lineup, but they simply have not produced as I have anticipated. Even with the big names they have like Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, they haven't had a good offensive year.

Oakland A's
Sonny Gray gets the start for Oakland and comes in with a 2.13 ERA, 0.98 whip, 150 strikeouts, and a 12-6 record. He is still in the running for the Cy Young as far as I can tell and has had a phenomenal season so far. In his last 10 starts he had only had one subpar outing in which he allowed five earned runs off of five hits in six innings against Minnesota. In his other nine out of 10 starts he has only allowed 13 total earned runs. He has had some solid success against the Angels this season allowing only eight earned runs in 28 innings for 2.51 ERA and 0.84 whip, look for him to continue those type of numbers today.

Oakland ranks 15th in runs scored per game at 4.16, 22nd in OPS .702, and 14th in batting average hitting .253 as a team. Most of their offensive statistics go up slightly at home and they are pretty well-rounded offensive team. At times they can really put together some runs in bunches and at times they can struggle, it just depends on the matchup, and today I'm siding with Heaney to do a decent job in keeping their run total down.

These teams know each other very well, but I don't anticipate a huge offensive outburst today so I suggest adding this play to one of your MLB picks. Today's starters are having very good seasons and I look for both of them to go deep into this contest and get a quality start. Although the total on this game is low as far as MLB totals for AL games are concerned don't let that sway you, back the under.
