Swinger's 2014 MLB Record (24-25-1, -13.65 units)
Picks are rated from 1 to 5 units

Perhaps I should just stick to my maximum unit plays if the endgame here is to make money at the end of the MLB season. I say this because we struck gold again last Sunday as the Yankees, +105 underdogs in MLB odds, cashed for 5 big units (5.25 units to be exact) when they defeated the White Sox 7-4. All but one max unit play has cashed this season and though these plays are rare they have indeed been deadly.

Of course, it wouldn't be the 2014 MLB season without a loser sprinkled in just to keep me humble. I had to lay the -115 in MLB odds on the LA Dodgers as they hosted the NY Mets in what turned out to be a lopsided affair with the Mets spanking Big Blue 11-3. When the dust settled we went 1-1 on the day but picked up 1.8 units. Big freakin' deal.  We're still over 13 units in the hole and I'm not a happy camper.

Let's hope this cloudy crystal ball of mine gets a whole lot clearer and allows us to draw close to even. Hell, we may actually make money when this season when all is said and done but for now, we keep grinding. Grind along with me, won't you?

Minnesota Twins vs. Baltimore Orioles (Money Line and Run Line Special)
I'm not a huge fan of laying big favorites but I'm not averse to it either if I feel the chances of success outweigh the significant juice I will have to pay if it loses. So here we are with the AL East leading Orioles (did you ever think you'd be saying that on August 31st?) entertaining the Twins in the third of a four-game set. The O's blasted the Twinkies 9-1 in the opener and edged them last night 3-2. As they say, three time's a charm and Baltimore is diggin' the home cookin' as they are now winners of five of their last six in front of the fan friendlies.

Wei-Yin Chen takes the bump for the Orioles and has held opponents to three runs or less in eight of his last nine outings. He is 6-1 with a 3.05 ERA during that span and more importantly, has fared well against the Twins during his career. He is 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP when facing Minnesota. Chen is not built for nine innings so the Baltimore bullpen will most definitely come into play and when they do expect a sublime effort.  The O's pen has registered a 1.06 ERA over their last fourteen games. Add all this up to go along with an overmatched Twins club and a starting pitcher in the struggling Ricky Nolasco and you have a team well worth laying the lumber.

Washington Nationals vs. Seattle Mariners
The total is low in this one because it should be and that's precisely why we are playing 'under' in this one. Both Tanner Roark of Washington and Hisashi Iwakuma of Seattle have micro WHIP's of 1.09 and 0.98 respectively this season and neither team hits the other very well as evidenced by the four combined runs they scored last night.
Free MLB Pick: Play Under 6 ½ (+100) in your MLB picks for 3 units at Bet365
