I've spotted two games with offenses sure to struggle on Wednesday, and I like the prospect of these contests going Under the listed total presented by oddsmakers. Follow my logic as I break down two matchups that could end up being pitcher's duels.

Nothing like a little breakfast baseball to get you over the hump on a Wednesday over here on the West Coast. The Twins and Royals get a rare mid-week day game as this AL Central series continues in Minnesota after Tuesday off.

Minneapolis baseball in spring is a fleeting ideal, as the weather there continues to linger more towards winter for periods at a time in April. Tomorrow will be relatively decent all things considered, but the temperatures should still only be in the 40’s come first pitch at 11:10 PM local time.

This cold will serve to slow down these offenses, already projected to be some of the weakest in the MLB. It should especially benefit Kansas City starter, Ian Kennedy, who has shown to be able to perform at an elite level for stretches of time. Late last season he apparently figured something out and went on a 13-game stretch to end the season in which he compiled a 2.66 ERA. His problems stem with the long ball, which should also be helped by the brisk weather come Wednesday morning.

Opposing Kennedy and pitching for Minnesota will be Hector Santiago, who saw his ERA balloon last year after moving from the Angels. Santiago also has a weakness of giving up dingers, a weakness that should be subdued by the weather as well. I think we could be in store for a surprising pitching duel here, so I am taking Under 8.5 runs as one of my Wednesday's MLB picks.

  Atlanta Braves vs N.Y. Mets

This should actually be a fine spring day in the New York metro area, and one of the last for a few days as rain and snow is expected to move into the area on Thursday. Plenty fine weather for pitchers to find success at least.

The Atlanta Braves enter the 2017 season with one of the weakest lineups in baseball. On Wednesday they take on the New York Mets, who have a singular and decided advantage in starting pitching across the board. The bookmakers know this and have made the Mets very heavy favorites on the money line – up to -200 over at some sportsbooks. I’m more interested in if they can keep this game under the listed total of 7, however.

The Braves counter Jacob DeGrom with the ageless Bartolo Colon, who happens to own the Mets over his career. Colon is 4-1 in his starts against the Mets with an ERA of 2.81. Now, he only gets to pitch against them every 6 years or so, but there is something to be said about being comfortable pitching in a particular ballpark. DeGrom also has a career ERA of 1.90 against the Braves to fall back on should Colon slip up in his start. This game screams a 3-1 final, so I am taking Under 7 runs -115 as my other Wednesday pick of the day.
