SBR handicapper Mark Lathrop has been following run-line dogs over the last week. Today he's leaning towards two great American League matchups where the hosts offer good underdog value. Read on as he explains why we should add these bets to our MLB ticket.

  Cleveland Indians vs. Minnesota Twins

Cleveland gave the Twins their 3rd loss in a row on Tuesday, but the stars are lining up for a much closer game on Wednesday. A lefty takes the mound for the Twins that should be able to keep the game close.

Adalberto Mejia is an unorthodox name, but the Minnesota starter for Wednesday is coming off of a fine spot start against the White Sox. He should find even more success against Detroit, as the Tigers are hitting just .212 off of left-handed starters this year. And even if Mejia can’t pitch many innings in his start, the Twins bullpen has been pitching well through Monday – with an accumulated 1.93 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 42 innings pitched.

Trevor Bauer starts for the Indians and he has gotten knocked around in his first two starts, putting up a 1.59 WHIP in the process. In his last three starts against Minnesota, he has just won one of them as a heavy favorite. That win was by just one run, so this is a prime spot to take Minnesota at home plus 1.5 runs -135 as a Wednesday MLB Pick.

San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals

These two teams are on a 12-2 Under run over their last 14 combined games. It is kind of hard to win by multiple runs when the offenses are sputtering, so I’m looking at the run line for wagering value here.

It a bit of a bizarre notion, Jason Vargas has outperformed Madison Bumgarner in spades so far this season. To be honest, both pitchers have done well, but it is Vargas that has picked up the 2 wins while Bumgarner has 2 losses because of the anemic Giants’ offense. Vargas has a 0.66 ERA and more impressive 0.88 WHIP through 2 starts, while Bumgarner has a 3.43 ERA and 1.00 WHIP.

This is lining up to be a pitching duel, so getting the home team at fairly decent odds +1.5 on the run line is a gift. In the end, this will likely come down to the bullpens where Kansas City has another advantage as they carry a 3.68 ERA at home versus the Giants bullpen’s 6.47 ERA on the road. I’m leaning under too, but for the official pick here I am taking KC +1.5.
