And just like that our MLB handicapper is back in the black, as he swept yesterday’s 3 picks and heads into Tuesday plus units again. Here he looks to keep the momentum going with his Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Minnesota has started off strong on the year, with a 5-1 SU record to show for their efforts. In this game, they match up with the back end of the rotation for the Detroit Tigers.

Coming off of a 2-1 win over the Boston Red Sox and their new member, Chris Sale, the Detroit Tigers turn to Matt Boyd to keep the good times rolling. Boyd is a rare bird in that he spent 4 years in college before entering the major leagues, and once he did, gained a few mph of velocity on his fastball working with elite trainers. That hasn’t helped the results yet, as his 5.85 ERA indicates. Boyd’s best pitch is his changeup so far in his career.

Opposing Boyd is Hector Santiago, who starts his first full year with the Minnesota Twins in 2017. Before last year, Santiago was consistent in putting up decent numbers, but his fielding independent pitching numbers indicated he was benefitting from some serious luck or excellent defense. Both Detroit hitters that give Santiago trouble could be out of this game though in J.D. Martinez (10-day DL) and Justin Upton (scratch Monday), so I like the value presented here against Boyd. I’m taking the Twins to pull the minor upset and taking them at +140 as one of my Tuesday's MLB Picks.

  Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

This game features a rookie starting pitcher named Rookie. You can’t make this stuff up. I bet one of his parents is saying “I told you so!” to the other tonight.

Rookie Davis faced the Philadelphia Phillies in his season debut and got rocked over three innings of work, giving up 2 home runs in the process. His fastball is great, but his slider and changeup need a bit of work to be deceptive. As they are, Davis’ off-speed pitches have a tendency to get destroyed by major league hitters.

Opposing Davis will be one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, Jameson Taillon. I’m counting on him to give up just a few runs for this pick to cash, then turn it over to a shaky Pirates bullpen who has put up a 4.42 ERA on the season so far. Take Over 8 in this game.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies

One of my favorite pitchers to fade starts this game in Colorado on Tuesday, as Jered Weaver gets his second start – and hopefully his second loss of the season.

I literally don’t know how Jered Weaver is still pitching in the major leagues anymore, and I also don’t think we will have a chance to fade him much longer. In his first start, Weaver was tagged for 2 home runs and 4 earned runs over 5 innings while walking three batters against the Dodgers. He draws a likely more difficult situation on the road in Colorado on Tuesday.

Weaver’s fastball currently sits in the low 80’s, with a curve, slider, and changeup in the 70’s. This drop in velocity was ok through 2015 when he was keeping the ball in the ballpark, but dingers started to become a problem in 2016 and Weaver’s ERA shot up past 5. I’d take the Over in this game as well if I had any trust in the San Diego offense. At this time, I do not. Fade Jered Weaver while we can and take the Rockies at -1.5 as another cashing pick.
