Our MLB handicapper leaves the weekend on a hot streak and looks to keep things going on Monday. He finds two value spots on the MLB card and breaks them down as he makes his Monday MLB Picks of the Day.

Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Dodgers

Bartolo Colon has his start moved up from Tuesday to Monday for this game. Colon is considering retirement so this could be the last start for the 44-year old. He’s coming off of a 4-run 4 inning performance against the Yankees, so look for the 28th ranked Twins bullpen to get some action here. I will be taking the Over in this game in lieu of the Twins run line as my MLB Pick of the Day.

Hyun-Jin Ryu has won just 3 decisions in his 13 starts this year but finds himself as an early -235 moneyline favorite at BetDSI. Ryu is an average pitcher with a 5.01 FIP and a 21.7% HR/FB rate. This will be his first start since hitting the DL with a foot injury in late June. Ryu gives up a .277 batting average allowed, so I will expect that the Twins can have a bit of success off of him in this spot. The Dodger bullpen will have also been a bit taxed since Clayton Kershaw left the game very early on Sunday with a back injury. I like the visiting Twins on the run line here at even money as one of my Monday MLB Sports Picks of the Day.

Two pitchers with great strikeout rates meet up in Seattle and our MLB handicapper thinks that a pitching duel just might break out leading to a play on the Under.

Boston Red Sox vs Seattle Mariners

Eduardo Rodriguez had a very successful 2015 campaign but lost most of 2016 due to dislocating his kneecap (ouch!). His tinkered with his slider and cutter to have an offering to compliment his great fastball and changeup. Those other options he has been able to throw for strikes, and he has increased his K/9 rate to a career best 9.90 this season. Rodriguez has allowed just a .224 BAA to all batters this year, but that is skewed by seeing right handers in a much higher ratio than lefties. He’s allowing a .212 BAA to righties over 55.2 IP and a .286 BAA to lefties over 10.2 innings pitched.

Rodriguez will face James Paxton who was masterful in his last game against the Houston Astros. That shouldn’t change here as Paxton allows just a .213 batting average at home and has a fantastic 1.82 FIP going in July. He is also running a 16/1 K/BB rate over his last two starts. Paxton gets deep into games as well, which should mitigate the Seattle bullpen being taxed some. I’ll take the Under of 8.5 in this game as one of my Monday MLB Picks.
