Masahiro Tanaka and the New York Yankees aim for five straight wins at Safeco Field as they take on Ariel Miranda and the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night (9:10pm ET). Betting preview with pick this way.

New York Yankees (50-45)

The Yankees rule Safeco Field; simple as that. Following Friday night’s 5-1 series opening win over the Mariners, they are 14-2 SU in Seattle since July 2012. Pitching is dominant in this span. The staff allows 2.00 runs per game, yielding 3 runs or fewer in each victory. The Mariners have scored a single run or shutout in five of the last six. Masahiro Tanaka looks to continue the mastery for manager Joe Girardi on Saturday.

Tanaka is all out of sorts this year. The former All-Star is 7-9 with a 5.33 ERA, nearly double his career season-high of 3.51. What’s the deal? Tanaka’s strikeout rate is top-tier (9.19 K/9), but keeping the ball in the park is an issue. The right-handers 1.97 HR/9 rate ranks third highest in MLB among pitchers working 100 innings or more. The Yankees are 4-8 SU when Tanaka allows a long-ball.

The Mariners may be Tanaka’s best remedy to mend a season-long slump. He is undefeated against all-time, going 5-0 with a 1.95 ERA in five starts. Tanaka has guided the Pinstripers to victory in each of the last three seasons at Safeco Field, allowing a total of 3 earned runs in 23 frames. The current Seattle roster is batting a lowly .176 (12-for-68) against, though three of the hits have been home runs (Robinson Cano 1, Kyle Seager 2).

Seattle Mariners (48-50)

What’s home field advantage? The Mariners are currently debating this question. In the last calendar month, the team is 2-11 SU at Safeco Field. Seattle is losing by 2.08 runs per game, washing away 86 percent of one’s investment at -133 average betting odds. It’s a combination of cold bats and poor pitching fueling the slump with the average score 5.15 to 3.08.

Ariel Miranda gets the honors for skipper Scott Servais versus the Yanks. The Cuban born southpaw, armed with a knee buckling splitter, has allowed 10 earned runs in 12.1 innings over his last two home outings. Miranda strung together six quality starts in a row at Safeco Field prior. This is the left-hander's first appearance versus the Pinstripers.

The M’s lineup is supporting Miranda with 5.37 runs per game. Today’s matchup presents a scenario where scoring is even healthier. Seattle is 5-1 SU when Miranda duels against a starter sporting a higher ERA than he does on the season. Seattle crosses the plate 7.67 times per game, putting up 5 or more in all but one. Opponents are held to 4.17 runs per game.

Final Analysis

Miranda’s last five starts have seen 9 runs or more in each. Tanaka has allowed 2 runs or more in all but two of his 10 road outings this year. The total has dipped to 8.5 at many online sportsbooks after a 9 opener. Play the ‘over’ for your your MLB picks with two pitchers struggling to find consistency. The lean on the side is with the M’s. The Yanks are 3-7 SU in their last 10 on the road against left-handed starters, despite going off chalk in seven.
