It is the final game of this series between this AL East combatants. New York is in first place while Baltimore is trying to catch the Yankees and the Orioles need a victory to close the gap.

Who has the edge in the first game of the day on Sunday, let's look over all the situations.

Pitching Matchup - Gausman vs. Undecided

Though Kevin Gausman (3-4, 5.86 ERA) has thrown better in lowering his ERA from 7.50, he's hardly been impressive. Gausman does not even have a 2-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio (47 vs. 28) and is being tagged for a .323 batting average, which is well above his career of .269. Eleven of the 90 hits surrendered in only 66 innings have found their way over the fence and right-handed batters are clobbering him for a .367 average and .410 OBP.

With the Yankees Masahiro Tanaka really struggling, he's been pushed back to Monday with the hope an extra day of rest will help and in his place is expected to be 24-year-old right-hander Domingo German from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make the start. German is 3-5 with a 3.34 ERA in 10 minor league games (nine starts) split between Trenton and Scranton. Skipper Joe Girardi, however, did not rule out Chad Green could also start depending on Saturday's results.

Yankees Offense is Awesome, Baltimore's is Sizzle and Fizzle

With the retirement of several aging veterans, most generating MLB picks figured it would take a year or two for New York to live up to the name - Bronx Bombers. But with an infusion of young players, the Yankees are the top scoring team in baseball and have multiple methods to score. The Yanks not only hit home runs like those majestic shots from Aaron Judge, but players like Starlin Castro and Aaron Hicks are providing power and getting on base with great regularity, driving in runs and setting up others to do the same.

Baltimore's offense is long ball dependent. If the Orioles are not hitting home runs, the offense is as stale as a crap cake sitting out in the open on a kitchen counter for three days. Too many players like Chris Davis and Manny Machado have low .200 batting averages and the Birds are 13th in the AL in on-base percentage.

Betting Odds, History and Bullpen Numbers

The MLB odds will be decided once a starting pitcher is officially announced. New York holds a decided 16-8 edge over the O's since 2015, with the total 11-11-2. (as of 6/10) The Yanks bullpen has really been spectacular of late and holds opposing teams to under .200 batting average. Baltimore is middle of the pack in the AL, still trying to get some of its members healthy like Darren O'Day and Zach Britton.
