Colorado Rockies vs. Miami Marlins
The price is right in this matchup to get involved backing Jon Gray who remains undervalued for the Colorado Rockies. Gray has allowed just 8 earned runs in his last four starts spanning 27.1 innings of work and the Rockies are 3-1 in those games. Gray will be facing Miami for the first time and has been very solid on the road outside of one rough outing against St. Louis.

Gray has 4 walks and 23 strikeouts in his last three starts and should be able to continue his solid run of success here. Adam Conley will counter for Miami and he is coming off a very rough start in Arizona allowing 6 runs on 11 hits in 5 innings. He has a 4.61 home ERA this season struggling at times here at Marlins Park and will be up against a Colorado lineup that has finally started to produce on the road which has been an issue for them in past years.

The Rockies have scored 5+ runs in 7 of their last 10 games and are playing their best baseball of the season on a strong 8-2 run in their last 10 games. Colorado is worthy of a wager at this near even price offered on the MLB Odds.

Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals
Michael Fulmer is absolutely proving to be a ‘bet on’ starter as he has been lights out for the Tigers allowing a single run in his last 34.1 innings over five starts. The Kansas City Royals will send Yordano Ventura to the mound and the Royals have a 5-0 record in his 5 home starts this season but it isn’t because Ventura has pitched well.

He has a 4.55 ERA in those outings but has received plenty of run support to make up for his struggles this season which includes issues allowing too many home runs and walks. Ventura has a 4.93 ERA on the season and his FIP and xFIP are both above 5 which indicates there is nothing fraudulent about his subpar season and that he just isn’t pitching very well and his swinging strike rate has declined sharply from 10.4% to 7.5% this season.

Detroit is 8-1 in Fulmer’s 9 starts this season and that is a track record worth betting in this game but I will split my Tiger bet up into half on the first 5 innings and half on the full game in case the sometimes suspect Detroit bullpen becomes a factor in the latter stages.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics
We have bet against Kendall Graveman a handful of times in the past and I’m willing to do so one more time here as the LA Angels head into the Bay Area for a weekend series in Oakland. The Angels will send a resurgent Matt Shoemaker to the mound as he has been very good of late after tweaking some of his mechanics and the result of it has been very good.

Shoemaker has incorporated more splitters and off speed pitchers into his repertoire and thrown less fastballs which is the main theme of the mechanical adjustments he has made and it has paid dividends for him as Shoemaker has allowed just 8 runs in his last 38.1 innings of work over a span of 5 starts and has a ridiculous ratio of 1 walk and 48 strikeouts during that span.

His swinging strike rate has jumped up from 9.1% to 14.2% and that has left him as an undervalued pitcher right now thanks to mediocre season long stats that aren’t an accurate reflection of the new and improved Matt Shoemaker that we have seen over the last month or so. Graveman has a 5.28 ERA this season and the A’s are just 3-9 in his 12 starts and 1-4 in his 5 home starts. I’ll takethe LA Angels as reasonably priced road favorites for my MLB Pick.
