Below we take a look at the fourth and final game of the series between the Giants and the Diamondbacks. Let’s review the MLB odds and cash a ticket in tonight’s clash of these NL West rivals.

The Shark Smells Blood

Jeff “Shark” Samardzija will be making his 2017 debut for the Giants and if tonight’s pitching performance is anything like his 2016 performances against the Diamondbacks then it will bode well for the visitors. Samardzija went 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA against Arizona last season and he last faced the D-Backs in July of last season when he spun a 6-2 win, going six plus innings allowing two runs on five hits. The oddsmakers installed them as a -145 home favorite on that evening and now we get the benefit of a much smaller price as the visitors look to even up the series after dropping two of their first three in the desert.

Samardzija will be opposed by young southpaw Robbie Ray who had an underwhelming 2016 season for the Snakes with an 8-15 record and a 4.90 ERA. Ray is 1-1 when starting against the Giants with an ERA of 3.68 and a WHIP of 1.545. His team's record is 1-3 (-2.3 units) in these starts and his last outing against the Giants ended in a 4-2 loss with Ray chucking for five innings of three-run, six hit ball at AT&T Park.

And the Winner Is…

Arizona has taken two of three from San Francisco and a win here would be a fine way to start the season. However, the Giants have too much talent and relief depth in the event Samardzija runs into trouble. These have been high scoring games with all three going over the posted total but this should be more of a lower scoring game with the Giants getting the best of Arizona starter Robbie Ray. I don’t have any confidence that the D-Backs bullpen will stem the flow of the Giants’ offense which will put San Francisco in a position to win this game going away after shaking off the cobwebs in the first three contests.

Let’s include the San Francisco Giants in our MLB picks for Thursday night as this is a team that has repeatedly challenged top dog LA for NL West supremacy and is poised to do the same this season. Watch Ray get rocked in this one.
